EG, you are correct. but it's not quite as eyecatching as most would like for racing purposes. a bright red light catches your attention in your peripheral vision much better than the dim green letters in the hud display, imho

I am not sure how accurate the HUD shift light is. Even it if was accurate it is so dam hard to see compared to a bright red light in your face. The other advantage is that I can adjust the Raptor shift light to my driving.
At the 1/4 track this weekend I had it set at 6500, but I bounced off the rev limiter. I then was told to lower it to 6300 get a good pass and then raise it back up at 100 increments. I did this and my times went from 11.86 (6500 shift - rev limiter) to 11.79 (6300 shift) to 11.66 (6400 shift). My times went down even though the air was getting worse.
At Pocono raceway though I might bring the shift light back down to 6300 since there is no need to whine the engine out.
Flexibility is what the raptor shift light offers over the HUD. If I was bouncing off the rev limiter with the HUD I woul dnot be able to make any adjustments....
For $85.00 I think it is well worth it. Plus it looks cool at night....
FYI
I was also told that the tach is not accurate with the RWHP and 4.10s that I am running. It lags somewhat behind the true RPM so when I see 6300 on the tach it might be really 6500. The shift light takes care of that problem too.
anyone without a guage pod come up with an ingenious way of mounting other than just the included little mount and double sided tape?
I have seen them mounted in the center A/C duct, just behind the diffusers. Very cool but a pain to mount and you can't adjust the Raptor after that without pulling it out to access the rotary switches on the side of the shift light housing.
I've also seen them mounted on the steering column upper trim surface just in front of the steering wheel and below the gauges and in the ashtray area in the center instrument panel.
