Default El Toro Test Drive

Anyone else get invited by Chevrolet to El Toro next weekend for the SS test drive on a closed course? I am looking forward to driving the wheels off the new C6. Should I bring my helmet?

My son-in-law-to-be got invited. Barring a scheduling conflict, we're going.

Default El Toro

I had a great time today. Unfortunately the C6 Z06 for 2006 has not been released yet so we were forced to suffer with a C6 automatic LS2 400 HP. Also, we were not allowed to turn off the active handling or traction control. Once you hit about 65 you had to slow down for the first turn.

I did not care for the redesigned steering or the hard shift and big clunking sound that came with the automatic trans. You could actually hear the big clunk while standing there watching others drive. Unpredictable shift points in the turns.

My wife also drove the C6 and really enjoyed it. She did not like the new feel of the steering wheel.

The Impala SS was the worst performer of the day. Lots of body roll and hard to control the car. Nobody even lined up to drive it. Maybe Chevy should discontinue making it.

The Cobalt SS was a hot little 4 banger. Rigid body and good handling, but lots of tire squeel the way I drove it. Some push entering the turns. Maybe some fat tires could fix that.

I still prefer my C5 hardtop on the road and on the track, but I can't wait for the 505 HP Z06 !!!!

Default Burn-out

Oh the joy of being back in my own C-5. No better feeling than getting a little sideways in a 60-foot burnout!

Yeah, drove the blue (C6)one this morning at El Toro. Not that all impressed. My '04 with some minor mods (Halltech Stinger intake & Magnaflow with X-pipe)does just as well if not better. The big problem at the course is that the straight-away is not long enough! Just as you are getting up to speed you have to brake to take that curve and then the rest of the course is all curves and salom.

I'll stay faithful to my C5 for awhile.

I attended the El Toro event a couple of years ago and that helped me made up my mind about buying my '04 C5. I just attended the event at Anaheim Stadium a month ago and it convinced me to stick with my C5. I am really happy I made the decision to go with a C5 as opposed to the C6.
