Can someone help, I was checking on a 1999 corvette. I did a carfax on the vehicle, the report stated that the vehicle had no reported accidents but the car is torch red and the title states the color is black. What is going on with this vehicle?
That does sound goofy... You should be able to see if it has been repainted somewhere when it's an obvious color change...
Though it may take some looking...
Did you ask the seller about it?
No matter what, I'd do some VERY IN-DEPTH investigation if you are serious about the car... Look at it with a negative attitude and see if you can find anything... Use a positive attitude and you will see nothing!
Check the paint code on the car, I'm willing to bet it's 70U-Torch Red. Black would be 41U. Not a big believer of carfax, they've been known to screw up before

You could post the VIN in a PM to Sponge Vette and have it run. In the service and origination history it shows what color the car was when it left the factory.
The other thing you can check is the RPO (regular production option) lable that would either be in the trunk under the driver's side cargo lid or in the glove box. The color code for black is 41U and for Torch Red is 70U - just like RandW said. Check out this web site.....
I too, don't place much faith in Car-Fax. It's only as good as what's reported to it and those that report are typlically body shops, dealerships, and insurance company personnel.
Carfax is less than perfect.
If the paint job is undetectable, going from red to black, the guy paid in excess of 10grand for the paint job, and would still be own it. If the paint job was done so it could be sold, A visual inspection would show this, also the paint code in the glove box would also be a tell tale indicator of the correct paint code.
I would not rely on what a Carfax said.
