Default Can't decide on wheels

Bought the 01 Z06 this past weekend and it is 100% stock. I am not a mod guy outside of maybe wheels. I can't decide if i should put chrome Z06's on or leave them stock. I am not open to other wheels besides the chrome Z06 ones.

What do you all think, keep it 100% stock or chrome it??

Chrome Z06 wheels look twice as good as the stock wheels. I still have my stockers on mine but I'm tryin to decide to go with the reg. chrome Z06 wheels or with the Motorsport wheels.

To me it depends upon the color of your car. If it is Torch Red, Black, or White (rare) I like the look of the stock wheel but on the other colors I might go chrome.

Actually I'm not a chrome wheel person and I saw a picture of a forum member's Silver Z06 where he had the wheels professionally painted a brighter silver and they looked great..

Good luck.

I ditched the factory ones and went with chrome. The argent paint was pealing and the previous owner used the rims as curb feelers. I thought about the black ones. I like them in pictures, but in person, they were too chunky.

IMO, chrome wheels are "picky". They need to be polished and they will pit (since chrome itself is more noble than steel and aluminum, chemically). Not to mention that hard water will leave marks when left evaporating by itself. The peeling. Discoloration.

In any rate, there is now "chrome paint". I was offered the black chrome type when I talked to a local wheel repair place to have my wheels painted. This is probably a better choice should you choose to get the chrome look. You can probably get the look without the consequences, besides, should you decide to change the look or back to stock look, the wheels can be easily reverted.

Where to get them painted ? I only know the place local to me called Wheel Medic but there maybe a different place closer/local to you.

I don't like chrome wheels at all. The most that I would go with is polished. I personally prefer the stock gray or black. Just a personal preference.

Whatever you end up going with, consider that the reproduction wheels aren't as light as the stock wheels and may cause adverse effect handling wise. Also, the chrome adds weight as well. It's worse kind of weight too because it's unsprung weight and it's also rotational mass.

If you're about show and not go, don't worry about it. But, if you are concerned about keeping your car handling as good as it was originally designed for, I'd be careful about your wheel and tire choice if you go with anything different than stock.

What kind of shape are your stock wheels in? I'm asking because I like the original '01 wheels better than the '02 and later. The '01's were forged aluminum and are stronger than the latter years. The supplier (Speedline) changed to spun cast because they couldn't keep up with the supply of Z06 wheels for the cars being built. There are very minor cosmetic differences. You probably wouldn't notice unless you put both wheels up against each other.

If I had to choose between a stock finish and chrome, I'd take the chrome for sure.

Go with what YOU like.

I think chrome wheels on Z06's take away from the race look, they don't look bad on some colors but I still don't like them.

Polished on the other hand looks pretty good..

I have painted/polished HRE's on my car and the stockers have track tires on them.
