I replaced the front skid bar I think that’s what its called, and anyway i ordered a new one from genes kar shop. I was told it was from GM new and when I got it was bare metal and didn’t have the threads that are on the old one to hold the horn and plastic front piece to direct air to the radiator. So I decided to weld the old ones in its place. I used JB weld in the paste form and it worked for a long time but my car is lowered and the plastic piece takes a beating on every bump. I was driving one day and hit a bump and the weld came out and I was dragging the plastic piece for awhile and had to duct tape it so I could get to work. I ended up using the same weld stuff because I had it as a quick fix but I know it will happen down the road again, and am looking for a permanent solution.
The threaded inserts are supposed to be installed at the time of installation. What I've done was to push the insert into the hole in the bar and then use the screw to partially collapse it in the bar and anchor it in. Then when you fully tighten it when you install the skid bar, the screw will pull the insert the rest of the way into it's permanent, anchored position. As you tighten the screw, you can feel when the insert is fully seated and then you can finish tightening the screw.

What? I thought we're getting a deal because the write-up says, "These plates are available for less than half the cost of GM units and offer full protection!"
