It's your choice....Comp Mode keeps traction control off and Active Handling on. Personally, I leave both on, as the car defaults to both on from start up. I guess if you like to have the ability to spin the tires, traction control inhibits that.....
I guess it comes down to what you are looking for and what you describe as better....
If you want to be maximize wheel spin on launch then running in competitive mode would be better since it turns off traction control but maintains active handling....
Probably the biggest issue I have seen with running in comp mode all the time is that you will use up the rear brakes at the same pace or faster than the fronts. I base this on 2 years of autocrossing. When I power thru sweeper turns and the rears start to break lose, the AH uses the rear brakes to primarly control the situation. When I have used TC and AH (to warm up on a new course), I have felt it use both throttle control and brakes to correct. Of course this just could be all in my mind since I have never actually read the full spec on TC/AH. But I know my mechanic has said twice; "How the hell do you keep wearing the rears out first?"
On the track TC is very obnoxious - it can rob power on corners and kill your drive out.
Useful on the street where even in nice weather you can run into oil, antifreeze and other things on regular pavement that can make for interesting situations.

I believe you are CORRECT!!
I do a lot of canyon carving and 3 track days and except when cruizing to work on the freeway....I am in Comp mode. Result I wore rear pads first. I actually scored the inside of my rotor!!
I have been told that AH/TC off is not safe. But it gives you faster times at the track.....as long as you can stay on the track
I'm practicing on the canyons and will try running at the track with AH/TC off instead of in comp mode in a couple of weeks
i've had my Z almost 1 year now, always in comp mode. Excepr for a couple of nights ago, when while practicing burn outs, i turned tc/ah/comp mode all to off. WOW--HOLY SH*T-- spun tires from1st to rev limit/spun 2nd to rev limit and chirped into third and could not keep the car straight, well its back to comp mode.
TC + AH will save your life some day. Leave it on unless you're on the track. I speak from experience.
Had to make a complete stop in the freeway once with heavy traffic on both sides...Actually two simi's on both sides of me...With nothing behind me....Was going over 90 mph...Guy in the fast lane was making a straight exit to left shoulder right in front of me...I thought it was all over for me...I think he was probably having a heart attack....What a great handling car we all have....

I would have to assume this guy was DRT. Dead Right There.
I would not have wanted to be the one to pull him out of this mess. Should make us all think what can happen when you drive the wrong way in the wrong place.
I like to drive fast, but only when others are not in the way.
