I have a 01. it has been consuming oil from day one. It started with a quart every 2700 miles and GM would not do anything unless it was less than one quart every 1000 miles. Here I am at 48,000 miles out of warranty and I am using a quart every 900 miles. After much work on my part GM agree to fix at no cost. It has been a long haul but I final got them to stand by their product. I still need to fight for the loaner car once it goes in for the week to get the engine pulled.
Congratulations, Quicksilver. With your tenacity and patience, you were finally able to get GM to take care of a very troublesome factory fault and consumer issue. Good job. Let us know how it turns out.

Glad your persistence paid off. I had the rings replaced in mine about three years ago and the tech did a great job. No more oil consumption and the car runs great. Hope yours turns out as well as mine did.

A good friend just had his rings AND pistons replaced for oil issues under the bulletin. I thought that to be interesting.

How or what did you do to get them to finally respond to your problem?
Write letters, call, e-mail? To whom did you address your complaint?
How long did take?
I had called GM complaint line when the car was new and under warranty. I opened a file. I watched the oil consumption increase then callled GM back (about 4 years later). This time they addressed the problem. I have the name of a great GM customer service rep. who helped me if you need it. The next would have been legal action if this did not work.

Thanks for the additonal info. I will keep this info just in case I ever need it. So far, no serious issues with my '04 coupe, but one never knows what could come up in the future.
What is the powertrain warranty on C5s? Many cars have three different warranties.
Bumper to bumper
Powertrain (what this would fall under)
Rust / corrosion
I know on my old Focus it was like 3 year 36K mile bumper to bumper, 5 year 50K mile powertrain and something even longer regarding rust for the body panels.
