I just bought a 04 Z CE. I just love the car but shifting from first
to second it hangs up some times. Has anyone tried the Hurst
shifter. My buddy has the B&M and he's says it s great.
Like a little input.
Thanks Jerry

I read the forum posts regularly and there have not been many, if any, problems reported. There are a variety of different shifters which members have used, but first I would want to have Chevy determine why you are having difficulties. If you get the stock shifter working properly you might like it and save the expense of changing it unnecessarily.

Really, I guess vibration isn't a problem. DO a serach and ready about the remedies.
I've got a Breathless shifter which, in common with most afterrmarket shifters, shortens the lever and transforms the shift from something like tossing the caber to a shorter rifle-bolt action. I couldn't get on with the stock shifter at all. Being 5 foot 6 means I'm nearer the pedals and the stock shifter long throw is that much further back. Now I'm much happier....and much quicker.
I put in a Hurst billet plus shifter about 3,000 miles ago and love it! My gal had some trouble with it though. Maybe that's a good thing. At least if the tires/wheels get curbed, it will be my fault!
I'm assuming that you have Gags delete and have eliminated the 1st to 4th shift.
Did you either take out or lock tight in your adjusting screws on the Hurst shifter?
Installing a Hurst was one of the first mods i did, no trouble at all and I love my Hurst.
I've got a hurst in my 03 and like it. I'm considering going to a C6 shifter though. The Hurst is very stiff and the C6 seems a lot smoother with just as short a throw.
I'd get the 1-2 shift problem resolved first!!! I've got an intermittent problem with reverse lock-out and the first thing the dealership and supposidly the GM rep said was "we will not fix the problem since there is an aftermarket shifter installed".
I just bought the C6 shifter off of one of our forum members for my Z06. Chevy did a good job with it. Anyways, I'm sure you can pick one at a great price like I did.
If your having problems shifting with your Hurst change your trans fluid to Royal Purple Syncormax, I could tell the difference on the first shift, this is great stuff.
I grew up with Hurst as most of us have. What's not to like. I've had Hurts shifter's in my last two C5. And since 2001 have loved every shift. Just don't install the stops and depending on your choice of ***** be prepared for some rattling or buzzing. After many attempts I finally foud a **** that not only do I like but the Hurst does too - the MGW Gripper.
I like my hurst for the track but started to get tired of it for the street. My beater truck has super easy shifting and my Mom's vert has the stock shifter in it. I took my fiance home and we rode around in the vert some and I got to really like the ease of the stock shifter.
So... I decided to compromise. I decided to take the springs out of the Hurst. I was finding that the self centering springs have been making a leisurly 1-2 shift hard and annoying. Plus it's still just fine for hard driving. I don't do the 1/4 so much anymore (mostly HPDEs) so the hard centering when banging 3rd isn't important anymore.
