I have a company that is wanting me to sign a contract FOR THEM TO SPONSOR $15,000 to trick out my car. The requirements..... Go to at least 4 car shows in 12 months and take pictures ( I already do that), Put 2- 2'' by 7'' stickers with their name on my car ( no big deal to me), & the $15,000 is used to pay 55% of any purchase made for modifying my vehicle ( that means that I still have to pay for 45% of my mods). This is a one year contract and after 10 months there will be a review and if the like what I've been accomplishing then they could offer me a 2-year complete sponsor contract ( that means EVERYTHING that I buy for my car will be paid for by them, NO EXCLUSIONS). What are y'alls thoughts? I want feedback from everybody that has an opinion, please.

Anyone that has had a sponsor or currently has one, please tell me about your experience. Good, Bad, or what? Would you suggest for me to do this?

Yeah this is a common sponsership, I've had a guy contact me from "Sport compact pro" wanting to do the same for me. I turned him down seeing anyone can get this "sponsership" by signing up online.

So your recommendation would be "NO"?
Thanks for the info.

Does anyone else have any advice for me? Do these things work like they say they do? Any hidden suprises?

Just curious, what is different about your car than any other C5 for them to have approached you?

If it was 100%, that would be a deal. IMHO

There is nothing out of the ordinary about my C5. It is a normal factory coupe.

Well, if I impress them for the first year then it could be. They told me that after 10 months they do a review and if everything goes well, they will draw up a 2 year COMPLETE SPONSORSHIP contract. I wish it was full for the first year, but you have to play the give and take game.

Oh I see. I would check it out. Depending on whether you were thinking of investing the additional ~$14.5k to begin with.

I can tell you , you probably *will* end up doing such over a few years anyway. But the problem w/ *this* deal is that they want you have to have invested that in the time frame of the next year.

Do you have ~$14.5k to invest in your car right now? If money is no object, then why not?

Very good advice, thank you. I have actually talked to them about this exact same subject and their response was....." You don't have to use the 15k all at once, or even at all. It is there for your mods and you can use as much or as little as you desire, no obligations except that it is only for 55% of your purchases not the whole."

I am planning on doing quite a bit of work in the next year anyways, so this sounds good to me, I am just interested in other people's ideas opinions and experiences.

Have you had any past experiences from sponsors that may help me in my situation? Or any advice?

How did they end up contacting you? I think I signed up for something online and sent some pictures, but I was told by them anyone was able to get a sponsership. The deal with me was I paid $70 to join, put 2 stickers on my car, and attend like 4 car shows a year. In return I would get 50% off my parts which had to be ordered through them. I do believe you have to spend a certain amount on modifications per year.....

Lookup forum member "XCELER8". He has had his C5 sponsored by Microsoft (Xbox), as well as other companies. His car has been in Fast and the Furious 2. He might be able to provide some insight.

Ooooh, this is the part where it gets intersting. "which had to be ordered through them." could be where they make their money. Find out if this is indeed the clause. If so, I'd stay away.

That's who I was going to recommend also. He can probably give you all the in's and out's of sponsorship.

I've also heard that you have to do a certain amount of mileage per year.

^ I take my advice back, don't talk to XCELER8. I just read the other thread about his debt problems. I don't want you ending up there.

Are they going to pay 55% of any and all of your purchases or are they going to give you a 55% "discount" off the parts that you purchase from them? Perhaps there is also a signing fee that you pay too?

To tell you the truth, and you said it yourself, there's nothing special at all about you or your car yet, somehow, out of the blue, someone wants to throw money at you in exchange for displaying a couple of stickers? Are you smelling the coffee yet?

I'd love this to be true for you but, somehow, it looks and feels like the classic "sponsorship" that ls1 mentioned which is simply a hook to get you to buy stuff from them. It's even got the same percentages and show requirements. Are you sure this company isn't Sport Compact Pro?

Thanks. I wouldn't like to be in debt, especially at a young age.

They said that it is a 55% discount from parts purchased from them. They do not make the parts, they are basically ( I think) a middle man. The company said that they have 315 vendors that you can pick parts from including...... RK Sport , SLP , & Texas Speed. I couldn't get the entire list, but those 3 companies are pretty reputible, right? Isn't RK Sport GM?

It is very neat to see others that have seen this offer and know the companies that do this " sponsorship " program. Does anybody know what the "catch" is? Or has anyone done this type of "sponsorship"?

If companies like Rk Sport, SLP, & Texas speed supply the "mods" for these companies to sell, then what is the donwside? Is the "55%" off not really true? Do they offer any discount versus buying the parts yourself? I would think that there is some sort of discount.

I guess what I'm asking is, If this "sponsor" is able to offer the same parts that I would buy direct from these companies at a discounted rate then where is the downside to this?

I love the feedback guys, please keep it coming.

Instead of a discount from these suppliers I would want to make sure they were not jacking the price up. Something you would order from SLP for 500 would be 650 from them. If there were any vendors on the list that you have ordered from or your friends have ordered from I would give them a call and perhaps see what they know about this. They might be able to enlighten you a little. Sounds like you might need to investigate more fully. Maybe you can even get a post that will give the real lowdown on it.
