Went back to the cheap stuff and my mileage around town increased from 15.9 to 17.9 with no driving changes. Also noticed in my other vehicles my mileage went down with shell v-power. Any opinions why there would be that much change? Is it the alcohol in it?
I started using Mobil on my last refill, we'll see if there is any improvement, I get about 15.5-16.5 from Shell. However, I started using BP Amoco on my other 2 cars and saw an increase of about 1-2 mpg's on my CRV and .5-1.5 on my Durango.
top tier fuels are 10% alkie = less energy. I read e85 fuels available in Ohio is 40 cents less a gallon because it is 85% alkie, but mileage decreases significantly more, I have never tried it because it is not available in my state and your vehicle must have a special chip. My explorer is flex fuel ready and can use that fuel. My other vehicles aren't. Anyone have similar results on mileage?
Stations in my area are getting caught adjusting amount of gas dispensed. How a 20 gallon tank all of a sudden takes 22 gallons is baffling. It's bad enough that prices are where they are, then the station gouges us further. It's hard to determine real gas milage when this happens.

a couple of years ago i was going 2 the lake every weekend one particular day i pulled up to a state park gas station my spare tank in my boat held 6 gallon and i put 8.1 in it i showed it to the attendent and he said man u should report this .never did but should have
I always seem to get an extra 1-2 MPG more with Shell than what I do with Amoco. Plus, when I use Shell.....my gas gauge works correctly. Not so with other brands! Shell V-Power it is for my Vette!

I would have paid for 6 gal and called the police they would ticket them on the spot.
In the past, I always used Shell in my C4's. Then I got the C5 bug. When using the Shell in my C5, I would sometimes get an erratic fuel gauge read whenever I used the Shell in my local area. And, I just don't have those issues when I use Chevron. So, it looks like my C5's prefer a Chevron diet in my area.
BP or Mobile only for me. Several years ago I put Shell Premium into it in the winter. Due to bad weather, I didn't drive the car for about six weeks. When I started it up in the early spring I had this strong rotten egg/sulfer smell coming out the exhaust. Burned that tank out, switched to BP, odor was gone and haven't bought Shell since.

I disagree.... the police are not responsible for this. It is usually a state agency, that is responsible for weights and measures. They would come out and physically measure the gas into their marked containers.

Same thing with our sort ute, 20gallons from the owners manual - took 21.2 gallons and I sure didnt pull in dead stick. So I tell the (kid) attendant I am not paying, he says yes I am - I says no I'm not - He says(u get the picture) Ended up calling the cops and to my surprise a detective showed up w/ 4 cop cars (attendant said I was menacing) AND, AND, AND a State certified increments of 1/10s , 5 gallon measuring bucket. After it was all said and done 2 hrs later, the station was temporarily shut down and I got my whole tank for free!!

I would get the erratic fuel gauge with Mobil. Chevron cured it, hasn't happened since the switch.
