Default Insurance?

Hey guys, I have seen this topic before but can't seem to find it in the search now. What is one of the best places for corvette insurance? I have tried my local insurance companies and things seem a little high. I remember someone stating a very nice "sports/exotic car" insurance was very affordable and could work with you. Anybody have any references or experiences?

Thanks a bunch!

If you're only 20, everyone is going to stick it to you. They seem to think that male drivers are insane until they turn 25. My advice is to get the yellow pages, and call everyone. As long as your car isn't a daily driver, maybe someone will give you a decent rate.

Try Geico, really!
We have 3 cars. A 04 Pathfinder, 01 Vette and a 99 Wrangler. Collision on the Vette and Pathfinder and our total is around $2650.00 for the year!

However my son is 21, drives a Montero Suv and pays $1400. he also has about 5 points on his license. Hope this helps.

Default Insurance

Grundy Worldwide insures collector cars and they have insured my 04. Their rules are simple-car cannot be a daily driver-can be used anytime for pleasure driving, you have to have at least one car in household for daily driving. I cannot tell you how much the cost will be in your case. One thing about Grundy is you set the limit you want insured. I set the total out limit for $40,000 on my car. Any regular co. will usually only go blue book wholesale. I have had Grundy for a few years. Started when I couldn't get my company to insure my Trans-am for any thing close to the value I had for it. We have our regular vehicles with a regular co. I heard @ Grundy from one of the car program ads. The average cost is really low($350-450 year with 0 deductible). I have not had any claims yet so don't know @ the service. I have talked to a number of people at the car shows and many of them use Grundy. Can't hurt to give them a call 215/674-1856.
Good luck.

You will definitely have to shop around, good buddy. But, do call Geico (as mentioned above) and Century 21. Do keep in mind that your gender, age and zip code will come to bear quite heavily. But, Auto Insurance companies are giving discounts for "good students". Check it out. And, good Luck to you.

If Mercury Insurance serves your area, give them a call. I've found their rates to be among the very lowest and their customer service, very good.

Rich - I don't know your personal situation, like driving record, credit history (yes, the insurance companies run credit reports when deciding on whether to take a "risk"), where you live, do you live with your parents, etc.

But maybe you should give some thought to going with the same company that your parents have their home and auto insured. Sometimes you can take advantage of multi-line discounts, etc.

I have coverage with State Farm - they're not the cheapest, but they are a very fair company with which to do business.

Default insurance cost

Could not quote price in my earlier post because Grundy had not billed me yet. Just got off the phone with them. $500,000 liability. 0 deductible on coll. and comp, $40,000 agreed to lose value- a little over $600 a year. When I first applied on my Trans-am I asked why they were so much lower than other insurers. The person replied that people with collector cars take much better care of them. By the way the T-A was insured for $20,000 at a cost of a little over $300 per year.
I was a little skeptical at first, but like I posted earlier I have met others who have Grundy and no-one had any complaints.

If you are 16 and own a Vette, there is something wrong with your folks. Also, I don't believe you can get insurance for $1600 in Fla at your age. It might be $1600/6 months, but not for a year. The reason I know this is because my cousin has 2 kids near your age and they have regular drivers, not Vettes and their insurance is out of sight.

If you can qualify, USAA is a great company to go with. I've been with them for about 15 years and never had a problem.

Seems odd to me but the cost to insure the 87 and 2000 is exactly the same. Had them triple check it but they say the two vehicles come up with the same code. That’s fine with me! It is also the company which insures my home.

The time to ask this question is before you buy the car. That way you can realistically determine what your budget is. I always call the ins. co when I am considering a new car. Esp with a Corvette: once you see & drive you're hooked. Insurance? Manana!

More than 25 good years with USAA. They did send me a pre-Dear John letter (we value you as a member and think you should have a talk ...) once after my then 18 y/o son totalled his car, and they did a DMV check. No more problems with son or USAA.
