Sorry guys did not know where else to start this thread............
At the FunFest, there was a magazine sponsoring a Corvette engine trivia contest. The question was " Name 6 of 7 highest HP output RPO engines offered for Corvette".
Of course i developed a brain cramp and could only think of 4. Now that I have had some time to think about it, this is what I came up with:
I really don't know if these are the correct answers. They are my thoughts to the question. Do any of the experts out there have the real answer? I won't be able to sleep without knowing.
I thought the engines you listed were measured in gross hp ( horsepower measured without engine accessories and exhaust) , whereas today we measure in net hp (which includes those items). So, you really cant compare a 425hp big block with a 350hp ls1, right? I thought that the LS7, LS6, LS2, and LS1 engines were all more powerful than the big blocks of the 60s and 70s? Maybe someone can clarify.

Thanks.
There were 2 ZL1 Vettes built in '69 with all aluminum blocks and heads. I don't know if 'actual' HP was ever determined, but I believe that I've rerad that some believe it to be close to 600 hp. Anyone have specifics on the ZL1s? Zuti
I believe the contest rules stated advertised HP. So, I assumed that regardless of measurement standards it was the advertised HP of that particular era.
As for the ZL1, I don't know if that was a RPO edition.
I'm more confused than earlier. Thanks for the replys.
I filled it out, but the way it was worded was somewhat tricky.
It specifically said "advertised" hp. The reason I figure they did so, is 1, the L88 was only advertised at 430hp. The ZL1 was just a block option for the L88, it wasn't it's own engine desgnation.
Also, in 1970, there was an advertised option for the 460hp LS7, although no known cars were produced with it. The LS6 -425hp didn't appear until 1971.
They wanted 6 of the 7 highest adertised hp engines (hp in the year that engine was introduced), their RPO number, and the years that engine was offered.
If you look at the list above, 405hp doesn't quite make the cut.
