Default Service ABS active handling question???

Had this go off over the weekend and has not come back yet. Should I sell the car after reading it could be a very expensive repair?? Thinking it might not be a bad time to trade up to the C6. Or should I keep it and it probably won't come back?

what year is your car? Mine's a 2000 with no warranty. Granted, it pisses me off the car only has 26K miles and it's broken

Good news, it could be just a glitch, sometimes if you hit a really hard spot on the road, or something to that effect, that could cause the system to act up.

Bad news- it could be ABS Modulator valve, about a 2,800 repair parts/labor,,, it also could be a steering sensor or wheel speed sensor, about 300 bucks...

what codes are you throwing? I had this on and off for a while and ignored, oddly enough after I installed the CLB (yea i know unrelated) the problem stopped, could just be coincidence.

also do a search on the C5 tech section board..this is a common problem.

good luck

Did you start the car and try to put it in gear to fast?

I have a 00 auto c5 and if you start the car and throw it into gear you will get that message.

I have had it a few times and its always when I start the car and put it in gear to before the computer has a chance to start.

mine is a 2002 no codes just the message and it does it when i am driving - usually when i start and turn around quickly ie to go the other way in a parking lot etc. Or when i am approaching my drive way and i have to go up the curb - fortunatly i have an extended warranty. As soon as i turn off the car the message repeats on the DIC and then i wait 15-20 secs turn the car on again and its gone. problem is - is that if those lights go on all of the trac and abs etc does not work, it doesnt affect the car any other way, its still driveable.

Way to many times that message pops up on these cars...hopefully you were able to shut it off, (re-boot) then start the car and message is gone...for awhile
Otherwise, it could be a range of different experiences, that have had members here stumped for years

Interesting that you asked this question. My car flashed some of the same codes three weeks ago. Just returned from NO and MS yesterday, took it to a dealership today. Total costs: Fuel pressure sensor?? around $325, Traction Condrol module around $920+, and Theft Deterent System?? about $650; total estimate $1895 - warranty direct = $100 deductable paid by me.... Parts to be installed tomorrow.

Good luck.

Mine is a 2000 M6. It did it right when I started the car and backed it out of my garage. I did turn it off and back on and the code was gone. I thought maybe it had something to do with me turning the active handling on and off the day before. I was just playing around with it. Probably my module is going out.

I would get it looked at quick!! Unfortunately, a lot of the C5's components are connected. If you have a short in one area, it could cause something else to fry. That's what happened with my car. Just my .02. Good luck.

Odd, I just got a code and came on the forum looking for answers.
I am throwing a "Service Traction Control" code. RIGHT after hitting a big bump. I wouldnt care, but, it reduces engine speed, so going over 25 mph is kinda difficult.

Did you check your DIC for codes? Even if there are no codes it will still show history codes. I *just* went out and did this, odd thing is, after me turning the car off 5 times to get home because of the reduce engine power message. I get in the driveway, turn it off, go inside to the forums, 5 mins later, go back out, and the check engine light is gone and the service traction is gone. but anyway, i checked the codes to see what exactly it was throwing, and i was getting a TCM reset by PCM code or something stupid.

C1278 TCS Temporarily Inhibited By PCM
C1281 Steering Sensor Uncorrelated Malfunction

Default TCM 1281 etc.

Many members have had good results to these problems by reseating and cleaning the EBTCM plug... worked for me!! Here's a thread with pics. Good luck.

I'm guessing all the B's and U's are when I had work done on my car. They had to replace the dash board. The C1225 must be the problem. Maybe a faulty connection or something on that right front?

If the code has a "H" at the end of it, it means it is a history code and is no longer a problem.

The good news is it is only a wheel speed sensor - extended warranty covers it I am sure glad i got one and i would say because the inherant problems with these cars its worth the money
