Got challenged this evening on my way home. Two bubba's in a beat Explorer wanted to race me off the stop sign in my development where the speed limit is 25 mph. My guess from looking at them was that they raced for teeth and always lost.
I just went for a short drive to test out my newly installed Hurst shifter. Two guys in a truck pulled up next to me at a light and then hauled *** when the light changed. Huh??? A truck? Please.....
So, I've had my vette for about 2 months and was just curious as to how often cars drive up to you trying to race. I think I have only had an impala, honda, and z28 want to race me so far and I drive my vette every chance I get. I had a lot more cars trying to race me when I was in my v6 firebird. Maybe my black vette with corsa exhaust is intimidating . Its nice not having a bunch of cars trying to race you all the time like it was in my firebird. No mustangs have yet to come up to me trying to race either.
Everytime I take the car out! Everyone wants to race a Vette!
Having had the vette since December never really had seen it much. Then a couple of weeks ago a guy in a 70's panel van with half the paint off floored it from a red light and actually heard it chirp when he hit 2nd (3 on the column I guess). Then a couple of nights ago 3 women in their forties in a small blazer did the same thing. I said, well now I know what everybody is talking about. Good for a laugh though.
I've been buzzed by the imports a few times. I also had a Cayenne Turbo riding my behind and acting stupid. Oh yeah, and the usual pickups with Flowmasters. I ignore 'em. If they get too close on the highway though, I'll drop the hammer and lose their lameness quickly.
Maybe I just look to darn old or somthing. I have been driving mine every day (daily driver) for 6 months and have only had 3 challanges; another coupe, a supercharged cobra, and a z28.
My vette is slammed on some black rims, I tend to attract alot of attention, I would normally get into a race every other time I was on my way to work.
Wierd, I think we have a similar combo. Blown 5-0 stang vert and blown C5 vert.
I just love when I get tail gated by some ricer, slow down to about 55 drop into 2nd, and floor it! And say bye-bye. I get someone wanting to race everyday! I do have a very, very loud 1970 mustang though, so there is some atraction there, no vette yet however.
Every time I take it out and drive it. Last week a guy at the gas station driving a Lighting wanted to know if I wanted to race. I said oh sure, let me go home and get my Ranger pickup. That kind of made him mad. Oh well, lifes a beach.
almost one everyday....last was a 300c with a hemi...the one before that m3 convertable....before that ss...before that i can't remember what car but ive had trans ams...mustangs (almost every single one)...some hondas...integras...g35s...etc.... everyone wants a piece of my vette (thats why i want to do headers...x-pipe and hi-flo cats...so it sounds really mean and they don't bother trying )
In my previous car, a Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, I got challenged ALL THE TIME. People wanted to race that car.
Now in the Vette since April, and I havent had one single challenge. Its a lowered and Corsa'd black C5....maybe the color is intimidating?
The closest I ever came was a joke challenge from 4 kids in some old rusty stock Accord. They pulled up and revved on me, all laughing. I slipped it in neutral and let them hear my Corsa roar! They all freaked out laughing and high fiving! We gave each other the thumbs up. It was awesome. We just pulled away at normal speed and they turned down a side street.
we're on our 2nd vette & the challenge thing, at least in this neck of the woods, happens more than one might expect. ricers are like mosquitos; ignore them. more commonly in this area, the guy who needs to prove himself is driving a mustang. i never, ever take that bait. beyond the fact that street racing is illegal & extremely dangerous, i don't have to prove a thing to some idiot whom i've never seen before & could care less about. bub
I guess I am the poster boy for being the idiot who answered to these challenges. I've owned mine for 3 years and have only been challenged once. What did I do-took the bait. Although I already know that it was going to be locked- I still told my story. Got IB4TL'd. Never again, I will answer to these challenges unless it's on the track.
