It just happened to me the other day on the freeway. Two young guys in an EVO twin turbo wanted to run me at about 60 and up. I declined as I had my share of street racing as a kid, but I also had some real concern about not being able to beat this guy!
Every now and then will see some nutcase roll up next to me and rev at the light.
I then let them hear what a real car can sound like and they think it's on. I let them blast off and just move normally. Let them believe they got me off the line. We all know the real truth
It's especially nice when the local badges are a block down the street so I can wave to them again as I go by.
I've had several fun encounters in the vette. I get alot of challenges, most are from cars that have no chance, they are just people wanting to see what it will do..normally I'll throw a rev and go on my way, but occasionally we will have some real challengers at the table, like GTO's, F-bodies, turbo imports, nitrous cars, etc... I lost to a z28 on my private runway once, thats the only time the vette has been pulled. The mustangs closest race was a Older 900cc honda on my private runway, I barely crept out on him. All in all I want to see my 30's and a wife and kids someday, so I'm being conservative. Oh yes, and since I blew the vette up, I now greatly appreciate being able to drive it now that Its been sitting for 3 weeks.
So, I've had my vette for about 2 months and was just curious as to how often cars drive up to you trying to race. I think I have only had an impala, honda, and z28 want to race me so far and I drive my vette every chance I get. I had a lot more cars trying to race me when I was in my v6 firebird. Maybe my black vette with corsa exhaust is intimidating . Its nice not having a bunch of cars trying to race you all the time like it was in my firebird. No mustangs have yet to come up to me trying to race either.
Actually only twice since I owned, around here vettes get respect. My first challenge is with an "old school" '70's camaro/trans am which is a story I posted awhile ago that got locked , and just last night while we were on the highway doing 80. A new suzuki GSX-R 1000(170 hp/400 lb, 180mph top end, 9.90 1/4 mile) came up to me and revved up to me. I probably would have tried just for a comparison but there was traffic ahead of us. I kept my pace and he sped off and split-laned the traffic and was off(like I was standing still). I felt complimented that an ultra fast modern sportbike would think my 4 wheel machine was in his league!
