I was wondering about making some performance mods to my C5 and when I look at all you can do, it's just mind blowing. Ok, what I'm asking here is, in your option, the top 10 performance mods that yeld the best bang for the buck. Number one being the best! I'm not looking to put a blower on the engine, just modist mods.
1) Blackwing
2) Exhaust
3) Tires
4) and then, if you're really serious about getting the best performace out of your car, take yourself to a performance driving school and get some track time. It's a hoot, and you really do learn some good stuff.
1. NOS
2. heads/Cam
3. Gears
4. Headers
5. Breathless intake
6. Intake
7. A real tune
8. Exhaust (mufflers)
9. Polished throttle body
10. Tires
11. Where do you stop
Well, I just cannot help but to agree with the lists posted above, along with a good tune. The above mentioned mods will provide your Vette with even more grunt and power. Good Luck.
1. Escort 8500 X50 Radar Detector 2.Blackwing 3. Corsa pacecar exhaust 4. Carbon fiber airbridge 5.Vented fog lamp inserts 6. Lloyds mats[15-20HP] 7.Cupholder rated over .05G's 8. Paper towels [until you get the cupholder and for "personal accidents" occuring over 9.0G's ] 9.MaGuires spray detailer to remove hand and nose prints from people looking to closely at your car. 10. A parking device so you don't drive into your garage too far or close the electric garage door on your car. If this happens......refer to #8! Good Luck and Remember to wave
I was in the same place you were 6 months ago...didn't know what I wanted to do to my C5...believe me, everyone on here has an opinion. But it boils down to what YOU want and what your goals are, HP, quickness, sound...all of the above? Since I knew nothing about mods (keep reviewing the forum and you will be an expert soon) I asked around. Most everyone said the first thing was to get rid of the stock air intake system...it sucks...like running with your hand around your throat. I went with the Blackwing ($300) and added a high flow air bridge and smooth bellows ($200). The next thing I did was to add Corsa Pace car exhaust ($1800). What a difference just from adding those. I'm now looking at Kook's headers and X pipe and then changing the gear ratio out from the worthless 2.73 to a 3.42. Of course, along the way you can add inserts (letters back, front, dash-airbag) vette essentials and engine compartment bling. I'm not sure but the actually HP from the changes I've made to date is probably only 20 or so, but a noticable difference. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks, this helps alot. I had a feeling that to improve performance the car need to breath first!

where's the best place to get this stuff? I could search for days on the web but I'm sure you guys have already figured it out.
Thanks
there are forum vendors up and down the left side of the screen...
by category...
...check current prices and pull the trigger...the product is the same..
...service may vary...(please folks no platforms here )
Generally you will get the same products from most of the vendors...
My mod list tells you where mine were purchased...
If I were you I would contact the tuner of choice first
Dragons Breath...is one I know is great!
He may do the intake, exhaust and tune and give you a deal for all...
...and rather than get product in that has issues you would otherwise have to take care of ...your tuner assumes the responsibility of providing you with a complete good install including components...

IMO, it depends on who drives the car and how much you want to invest. In my case, I opened up the breathing and the difference was amazing. I used a Vortex Ram intake, LS6 intake (car is a 2000), Oversize TB, It already had a Granatelli MAF. Then I added B&B shorty headers that I picked up really cheap locally plus a Magnaflow X-pipe and SS exhaust. The car picked up about 50 HP at the rear wheels and I invested about 2K plus was able to do the work myself. I then spent almost that much on a 4.10 differential and the car is a stop light screamer. I left the shifter alone because I the previous owner modified it a bit and it performs really well for me.
So.. you can spend what you want as you go. I stopped for now, but am considering a head/cam setup which would double the mod investment and the question of return on investment - in fun - comes into play.
