Default A question about the chrome caps for engine

I bought some chrome caps for my engine you know the ones that go on over the radiator cover, master cylinder and so on.Well the instructions tell you if they donot fit perfect to use masking tape to keep them on,is their a better way to do it like using 3m tape because to me masking tape would not keep them on.And where should the tape go along the sides or on the underneath of the cap and then stick it on. Thank you Charlene

Stop by an auto glass place, they have a rubbery, sticky adhesive material to hold windshields in. You can roll out a narrow bead of it, place it inside the chrome cap and then push the chrome cap onto the OEM cap, tight fit that won't pull off very easy. I keep the stuff in the garage all the time, almost like having duck tape around....

I am using industrial Velcor on my caps.

That way I can take them off when I do any heavy duty cleaning under the hood.

For chrome, Design Specialties was great. Wish they were still in business.

Hi Charlene,

Velcro or 3M tape has worked for me, too. And, to Sully: What a great pic of your stunning underhood compartment.

I bought an extra set of caps from the dealer at a price less than what you see on the forum as a "package deal".

I used a cement/glue to hood them on the new set of caps and I switch the entire set out at the end of each season and clean and polish the chrome set.
