Default Props to local shops

Just wanted to share fantastic experiences that I had with 2 local Chicagoland shops.

D & M Corvette - Downers Grove, IL http://dmcorvette.com/dmhome.htm

Got my PRT & x-pipe installed there. Tom Fara, service manager, is a pro who knows what he's talking about. A couple of things I noticed that I think set them apart from others I've worked with in the past: 1) It seems that Tom is the only one who drives the cars they work on, even from the parking lot to the shop and 2) When the tech was using a pole jack (?) to hold the exhaust in place while he was aligning and bolting everything, I saw him put a piece of rubber in between the jack and the muffler so he didnt scratch the muffler.

I know these things might be trivial to alot of people, but being a protective c5 owner I appreciated the extra effort. Thanks D&M.

Bill Kay Chevrolet - Lisle, IL http://www.billkay.com/index.php

I called my local chevy dealer about recall 04043 and spoke with the service advisor who said "I didnt even know there was a recall on the '04" and when I read him a bit about the recall that I found here http://cadillacfaq.com/faq/tsb/data/04043b.pdf he told me I would need to leave the car for at least a day, just to check it out. Not very confidence inspiring. I then spoke with Tom @ D&M Corvette who referred me to Bill Kay Chevy and told me they would take care of me. I called and told them I would stop by after my exhaust install at D&M but wouldnt be able to wait around for a long time but I just wanted them to inspect it to determine what work was needed. After leaving the car with the service advisor and heading to the waiting room, I went back to the advisor area just under an hour later and saw the tech pulling my car back into the dropoff area. He and the advisor informed me that all my car needed was the washers and nuts replaced and that they took care of it!! All I was expecting was an assessment and they did the work while I waited. The icing on the cake was that the advisor had called one of the other guys over to wash my car after the work was done. I didnt buy my car at this particular dealership, but I will definately consider them next time, purely based on this service experience. I also noticed about 5 other corvettes in for service that were all parked in the huge indoor service reception area (with plenty of room in between each one to prevent door dings), which any corvette owner would appreciate. Thanks Bill Kay.

Hats off to both shops! No affiliation to either.

Thanks for the heads up. It sure is great when the forum allows us as members to have the ability to be provided with a list of some of the better service shops in large metropolitan areas throughout the country. Many of us travel as part of our careers. But, also, many of our members traverse many miles across states to attend fun and important Corvette events. The two suggestions up top are sure helpful for that area. Thanks for sharing.
