Default z06 vs. c5???

Hello guys, I know I don' many if any posts on this forum but right now I own a 2000 SS camaro and I am looking at maybe trading it in for a vette, a z06 or c5. I am wondering about the rearends, parts, clutch, axles, cv's, and prices. I am own my way to look at a '03 with 24000 miles, for $33,500, black on black hard top. No chrome wheels, a base z06 I guess. I don't know that much about the vette and production #'s but really how rare are they to run across? I know in the camaro/firebird world the rears were aweful, is it still a 10 bolt here? what year were the ls6 intakes "standard", 17"/18" wheels right? How are the interiors about ripping, rattling, scuffing? Any other problem areas to look at? And good deal or keep looking? I am about $6,000/$8,000 upside down with the 2 trades I have, a 2004 gmc truck and the camaro, so I am limited to lots only unless someone else has a great idea oth than the "hit the tree" theory.

Thanks in advance...

Byron Taylor

Just so you know I had a 2000 camaro, 408 iron block, 248/252 112lsa, 200 TNT n2o, low 10 second car. Part prices are headers, catbacks, pulleys, alot I know will be the same as the camaro but some things aren't. Thanks again.

Also, is the z06 worth the extra $$$. I figure yes but you never know. The z06 is only about 5-8k higher so far...let me know.

Read the FAQ sticky at the top for the differences between a C5 and Z06, that will help. The cars are very strong, and the interiors are good too.

Welcome!

If you are performance oriented then yes.For sure. The LS6 is a jewel of an engine. If your more into dropping the top and comfort maybe a Vert or Coupe is more to your liking.Their not slow at all.
The ZO6 also has other performance advantages over the regular Vette.Stiffer Frame,Slightly lighter curb weight,3.42 axle.Stiffer suspension.Slightly harsher ride as well.
I had my mind set on an O2 Covert when I walked on the lot.I drove one and liked it.But I hesitated. In the mean time I drove the Z06 and that was all she wrote.I had to have it.MY 02 Z06.
Two + years later no regrets for me.

I was in the same shoes,98SS and The accident fairy struck.Left turn in to me
20k from my totaled SS. Started looking, bought nothing
for 6 months.Looked at GTO's thought, go for a z0-6. Smart
move.

Judging from the description of your camaro i'd say Z06 hands down. I went from a 383 stroked/built front to back lt1 camaro to the z06 and it was the best decision i ever made. It's defintley the total performance package, you can drag it,track it,or just cruise in it. I think 33,500's a lil high for a car w/ those miles on it...just my .02

I have had both and the std C5 is more civilized than the Z.

The Z is rougher riding, more engine noise, tire noise & exhaust noise.

Oh, and faster

I don't think 33k miles is a lot for these cars unless it's 33k racing miles. The Z is a pretty tough built car that should last a long time
