One of my friends has it - he's not on here very much, but you might send a PM to Nuke Cop and ask him.

I have remote start on all of my cars. Would not be without it. The unit that I have found that works the best is the Clifford Matrix. http://www.clifford.com/matrix/default.asp

Clifford is owned by DEI which also owns Viper, Python, Automate, and a few others. You can not go wrong with anything from DEI. You can go wrong with the installer though. Your "top of the line" product is worthless if installed incorrectly. Make sure to shop installers. A remote start is an invloved installation that can turn your electrical system into a rats nest quickly. Ask if you can see an install of an alarm in progress. A properly installed alarm should not be visible. It should blend in with what was in the car from the factory. If you need any pointers or have questions let me know. I have installed well over 400 remote starts.

Im into the 4-500 range as well on installation of units, and i couldnt agree more.Make sure there not using t-taps or scotch locks on the connections as well. There is no excuse not to solder EVERY wire. There are alot of wires that are important to the vehical running properly that will be spliced into so a poor connection could mean a call to AAA.
Also ANYTHING made by DEI is the highest quality in the industry.PERIOD!! Good luck!!

I thought you could get a remote start only on automatics and not on cars with manual transmissions. How do they get around depressing the clutch at startup?

They now make autostarts that work on manual transmissions. Make sure you get one that won't start if the car is in gear. One other note about autostarts or any other electrical mods. GO TO SEVERAL shops in your area and try to figure out who has been in business the longest and who does the BEST work. Remember, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Here in Fairbanks there is one shop that has been in business for over 25 years doing that kind of work. They are the TOP DOG and they have the best people working for them. There seems to always be several other shops and they come and go. Stay away from those folks. Again BUYER BEWARE on these items. Find out who employs the best mofawkers and then make your purchase from then and have them do the install. Hope this helps. I hate reading HORROR stories in here.

I have them on the other vehicles but they are all automatic...
and although I know some thought has been put into safety checks to avoid starting a manual while engaged...
...do you recommend them in a manual? ...when I considered the alarm the installer said they wouldnt do remote start in a manual car...
Oh and do you still install them for others...

Yes I still install them. I have been DEI certified for around 12 years. I do not do them nearly as often but there was a time I was doing between 10 to 15 alarms a day. Yes a remote start can be installed on a manual tranny. I have put them on motorcycles. BUT THE CAR CAN AND OFTEN DOES DRIVE OFF IF LEFT IN GEAR. I can tell you several stories and none ended well. Last I knew Clifford made an alarm with remote start designed to work on a manual car. It required the user to do a special sequence when leaving the car to insure the car is in neutral. I never installed one of those but I am sure it works well. A thing I often do in manuals is install an extra impact sensor that is only tied to the remote start. If the car jumps the sensor activates one of the shut downs. It works to keep the car from traveling to far but it will still move.

Stuart...I am also working on in car computers. I heard you are interested in those also.

I installed one in a friends pickup truck with manual tranny. Sadly, the truck didn't have neutral detection capability. We wired the remore start so that it would only auto-start with the parking brake fully engaged.
This was really an attempt to remind a person (as they're setting the parking brake) that "Oh, thats right, Auto Start function; I need to place the tranny in neutral as well .

So even if he had the parking brake on (but forgot and left the tranny in gear) the truck wouldn't go anywhere as it was attempted to be remotely started.
And of course if the parking brake hadn't been set... the remote start was inoperative.

It took him a week or two to...
a) remember to place the tranny in neutral, and
b) to set the parking brake each time.

It was the best we could come up with without having a neutral tranny detection signal.

BTW, this was with an el-cheapo Bulldog remote starter.

tell me this dude was freaking BSING me today!
I had this DI**head come up to me from some audio shop telling me i should get my viper alarm installed by him for like $700!

I hope eatrice reads this. Well i have the Viper 791 VX that I have just gotten for my bday from friends.
Supposedly this guy is saying that Vipers do not have a sensor and the car will start in gear! ?!? Also he said I will need a computer bypass pice becouse if I try to remote start the car and the key is not in the ignition ( it will think that its being stolen therefor fry its computer ) hahaha it sounds like the terminator self destructing!)
So i would need that computer bypass for 200 dollars! wtf!! is this tottal bs I don't belive the guy a word.
