I liked the idea of the trunk partition for my Z06, but they seemed really expensive to buy. I found a template on the FRC site and output it on the plotter at work. Bought a piece of Corning rigid insulation at Home Depot and some black replacement carpet at Canadian Tire. Cut the inulation to shape and used contact cement to attach the carpet. Worked great, fits great! Total cost was $25 Cdn all taxes in I have pics if anyone can post them for me.
Yes, that's the link I used. The template is in AutoCad .DWG format, so you'll need to convert it to output it. I converted it to PDF, but it came out too big, so I reduced it down to 46% and it was perfect. Many thanks to Chris at FixedRoofCoupe.com for the free template!!
I built my own from that template also. I used that foam sheet insulation you see on the outside of unfinshed houses. But I double it and glued it together then glued black carpet over it. It weighs like 1/4 pound or something. I just couldn't see a 20 pound MDF board behind me or adding any weight to the car.
I agree pat03Z06 the weight of the MDF board would be significant and getting it in the head would definitely not be good I also bought the insulation, but I was able to get it 3/4" thick so I didn't have to glue it. Heck, you can buy it 2" thick up here in Canada. It's cold up here don't yah know

Lightweight is the way to go I am convinced and it's easy to do, saves alot of cash and deadens the sound very well.
to my canadian buds with their thick insulation. It was 108 here last week

How did you know the reduction value of 46%? I tried to get the .dwg file printed at several Kinkos and nobody knew WTF to do w/ it.
I have the PDF file if anyone wants it. Surely, Kinko's should know how to output a PDF at 46%. Or, you can buy a printed template from the FRC site for $15 I think. If you have to go to Kinko's they'll probably charge you that much anyway.

Printing out a .pdf file is not the problem. The problem is that the file didn't convert from .dwg to the proper size in .pdf. My question is where did you get the 46% value?
BTW kinkos wanted $6 to print it on the plotter at full scale.
I knew the PDF didn't convert correctly, so I took measurements inside the car and used them to determine the reduction factor. It turned out very close and with some minor trimming of the template, it worked great.
