Default Exhaust advice!!

Ok I have a 2000 all stock C5. To me the exhaust is to quite and I am looking for an exhaust with a bit deeper tone but my wife does not want it to loud. What I need to know is what would be the next step up in exhaust volume?

Thanks in advance

Try the B&B Route 66 - deeper tone and only a bit louder than stock.

Not my setup - H/C package + Kooks headers + GHLs = LOUD!!!

If you don't want it too loud I would go with the Z06 TIs. You can get a used set for about $450 from the Z06 guys that are upgrading to some other brand.

It will give you a deeper sound, but nothing outrageous. If you need more noise after that you can always upgrade the stock headers.

Honestly ... you should listen to as many as you can and decide for yourself. Everyone's desired best will differ from your own.

Consider the steps you will want to take as well (headers, shorty's long tube, x - pipe, cam, etc) figure out where you want to be longer term or you will be reselling them in the not too distant future.

Good Luck,

Lots of good advice here - best is to listen to the myriad of choices and decide yourself what you like.

Personally, I don't see the point of listening to the systems at idle or having someone blip the throttle a couple of times sitting still. That won't tell you how the system sounds IN the car at freeway speeds or around town running through the gears.

One thing to be aware of, some systems offer considerably less resonance thatn others. That resonance is that annoying drone that is a certified headache producer.

You said your wife has some concerns about the systems being too loud - she is more than likely talking about resonance. I don't know how you're going to do it - but the best thing is to go for a ride with someone and hear the actual systems in the situations I mentioned. Maybe you need to seek out a gathering of other Vettes and start by asking for some opinions, and see if any of them will take you and/or your wife for a ride.

No offense to anyone here - but we are all going to advise you to get what each of us has - and the only one that can say which system sounds best is you and your wife. I'm not going to tell you what I have, other than to say that I am very satisfied with the appearance and the sound.

Good advice. Many exhaust manufacturers now have example sound tracks. Listen in on as many as you can. However, nothing compares to REAL time sound. Therefore, contact a local Corvette club and ask what members have the exhaust systems you are considering, and, go on out and hear these systems in public. Moreover, go for a ride with them inside the car to test for your personal tolerance of perceived interior resonance. An exercise like that should really help you narrow down your decision. Good Luck to You.

Default Exhaust

I had the Borla Stinger exhaust installed on my 01. It sounds pretty tough when you excellerate, but calms down when you get to your cruising speed. The inside noise is not bothersome as I've heard some people talk about. I didn't want annoying noise to bother my music or conversations and it doesn't. The large tips look pretty good too. I have no negative comments to make about this exhaust. You might want to check one out. I paid 900.00 installed.

and if you have an A4 or M6 it will sound different in each. So hopefully you can find someone that has the same tranny as you. The resonance situation will be most noticeable at cruse, if there is any. Also ask if they have an X-pipe or sound material installed. Best of luck.

I'm looking at exhaust options myself. I plan to make a decision over the winter. I was thinking of just getting electric cutouts. When the wife is in the car I would just keep them fully closed, but when she's not, I would open them up a bit - okay, alot. The best of both worlds!
