What year is your car? I know that they got increasingly harder to remove as the years went on. I didn't even bother. I didn't want to ruin the sun visors.
I don't get it either. The GM engineers can't properly fix something like the steering column lock problem, but they can figure out how to stick the airbag stickers to the sun visors better, so it's nearly impossible to remove them.

Mine pealed part way off. Used a product called "Goof off" on a Q tip to slowly wipe away the residue. Much cleaner look inside the car in my opinion. I don't need a constant reminder not to strap my kids to the air bags.
