Speaking of Mustangs, I'll never forget how back in '74, my first car was almost a Mustang. A Mustang II, that is.
Didn't know much about cars and was about to get my first car for my last year of college. Went to check out a cherry-red model and even not knowing much about cars, knew that this was not what I wanted. Finally settled for a Camaro Type LT and stuck with GM F-bodies ever since until I got Red Racer last year.
From what I've heard, even the Mustang die-hards admit that the Mustang II was a disaster.
Not a thing wrong with the Mustangs. I've had several over the years and they are fun little cars. Some of the newer ones are very quick and will give the Vette a good run. But, when you get into twisties or similar driving, the Vette really shines. They are two different cars made for different purposes - but I like them both.
I agree. Both have there virtues. However, the Vette still outshines many competitor brands, to say the least, regarding overall performance, value, design and heritage.

I've been fortunate...
I've "run into" Stangs (Cobras) along the way over the last couple of years and have gotten a couple of ... They haven't disrespected me the Vette. I just about get props all the time...the rest of the time I get ignored

I had a 98 Cobra until a year ago when I sold it and bought my Z06. The motor was stock with a K&N a dyno tune and a full Bassani exhaust. I also had the suspension modified with full length sub frames, front coil over kit and Tokico 5 way adjustable shocks.
It made a huge difference on the track...I could easily hang with C4's and C5's, much to their surprise. They never did believe that the motor wasn't built. It was a fun car and I miss it to this day, but I am very glad that I've got the Z06.
The Mustang and the Vette are different cars and both should be respected for what they are. There are just as many folks out there who think badly of GM products as there are those who dislike Fords. Everyone is entitled to their personal taste.
The silly thing to me is to simply discount the car just because it is a Ford or a Mustang. I've been a life long Ford guy and I was able to get over my bias and purchase a Vette and I am glad that I did. There are many different makes of cars that I would be happy to own. The Vette most certainly isn't the end all be all of the motoring world.
If some of you Mustang haters ever had one to drive every now and then, I would be surprised if you didn't find out that they aren't as bad as you've been led to believe.
My son just sold his 01 Vette convertible and is picking up an 04 Cobra with only 700 miles on it on Saturday. The Cobra is slightly modded and is probably putting out close to the same horsepower as my Vette. I've owned both and yes, they're two different cars. If you're looking for "more bang for your buck", the Cobra is a bargain in my opinion. If you want to take them lightly because it's "just" a Mustang go right ahead, but you might end up getting spanked by one.
My vette and my sons mustang. I like mine and he likes his. I've driven the mustang, quite peppie and fun to drive. The vette is an auto, the mustang is a 5 speed.
