Got the pull key message recently. Column unlocked uneventfully though. I ordered the CLB which will arrive from Vettes o' Houston on Mon. Now I read that the bypass doesn't necessarily solve the prob. and that the column may, indeed, lock WHILE DRIVING.....EVEN REAL FAST . Has anyone had this happen.

That's impossible, as the CLB disconnects the motor electrically.
The CLB makes the computer THINK the column is functioning normally.
Some early C5's (97,98) the bypass would not work, but for most I would say the CLB works fine....probably 98% if installed properly work fine.
I agree. Get the CLB. You are better off with it than without it. Be sure to clear your battery (disconnect to erase all trouble codes). Good luck to you.

Maybe what you have read that after the dealer recall service has been performed the column can still lock.. THAT IS TRUE
With the CLB installed the column will NOT lock ever again.
That means never, even when you want it to, like when parked......
