Default vette withdrawal

I have owned a vette since the summer of 95, first a 96 CE and now a nassau blue 98 coupe with as much in mods as the car cost me, for the past 4 weeks I have been unable to drive, and it may be many more weeks before I see the inside of the car, (torn a disk in my lower back which has left me "flat on my back") just wanted to say not driving the vette is like drug withdrawal, can't seem to get over it. Does anyone else feel the same when they can't drive their "toy" for a long time?

i know this pain. sciatic pain a complication for you?

if you have back probs , like me, take a look

in the Corvette, i find the chair actually HELPS

put the manual recline release arm / back of the chair to a fairly straight but slightly back level. then with the controls:
bring the seat fwd and then UP high as it will go , ...bring in the sides, and apply lumbar ... THEN, twist the UP/DOWN piece that controls the fwd/bck and up/down - this time trying to 'drop the back lower but leave the front higher

presto, its like a lazyboy in your corvette

then set this up next to it

I feel your "pain"...so to speak! I just passed my first anniversary of owning a Corvette. Finally got my dream car last year at 51. I was able to drive it until the first week in November, and then it had to be put away in the garage to rest out our Minnesota winter. It is heading there again in a couple of weeks. I tread the thought. I spent all last winter reading the Corvette Forum and watching videos others made in warm states of their drives through the countryside. I wish I had gone on a few more drives this past summer. Oh, well...next summer the Vette is definately going to be driven more. I spent this past summer getting the feel for it and from here on out...it is really going to get driven! But, to get back to your question...I know exactly what you mean. I do hope you have a speedy recovery and will soon be back behind the wheel of your "baby." The best of luck to you! Dan

I feel your pain...

I just had major abdominal surgery back the first week of September. I went a month without driving my baby. My recovery is in full swing and I'm back behind the wheel. But, yeah... being without it is like stopping an addiction cold turkey.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the ideas, when I am allowed out of bed I will look into the chair, I spent a week "tied down" to a bed in the hospital and now flat on my back in bed, thanks to the wonders of WiFi I can work from my bed.

I know what you mean, but I've never experienced what you're going through. I am fortunate to live in a place where I don't have to put my car away - and I haven't had any surgery like you and others have described here, thankfully.

I wish you the best and speedy recovery, though! Just look at it this way - when you are finally ready to get behind the wheel, it will you give the opportunity to experience the excitement you felt that first time! Abscence makes the heart grow fonder!

Been there, done that, got the teeshirt. Don't you hate it when you can't do what you want? Are they going to have to cut you or will they try PT first? I was lucky and the PT helped me. I did the exercises like they said and my back is better now than when I was 35. It takes time Brother. Good luck.

Dr told me he would cut if it would help, but the damage can't be easily fixed by surgery, I lay flat on my back for a few more weeks than begin PT, I can't bend at all, told me in a few weeks I should be able to start PT to see if it helps

Just a suggestion:

Take the time to seek second opinions - quickly.

The reason for this is I was injured in an auto accident on 1-17-04. The first thing that was operated on was my arm and shoulder as these took precedence over the back.

For three months I was taking 'shots' and PT for the back - to no avail.

I sought out two other neurosurgeons and ortho doctors since I was not gaining any relief by those procedures.

Both told me I needed immediate surgery, and that I could expect at least three more following the first one.

After going through four back surgeries, I am still looking at one more.

If I would have had the operations (without going through the PT and 'shots') I would be done with this mess.

Just my $0.02

Good luck in your recovery. Yeah, had to go to Orlando for a week recently and totally missed my ride.

A few years ago I injured a shoulder muscle at the gym. Lived with the pain for almost a year, thought it would go away on its own, not.

I was always skeptical of PT, but when I finally went it was like magic, in less than three weeks the pain was gone. I'm a believer now.

What I like to do when I can't enjoy the Vette (like New England winters) I look at maps from all over and dream about all the road trips there are in this great country. My other half thinks I'm nuts, but hey, I tell her, I never get lost.

Good luck in your recovery.
