Default Tire Help

Alright guys, it looks as if Im getting ready to order a set of wheels just for the time being and just for a change. I will be running an 18/19 combo for now. Fronts being 18x9.5 and rears being 19x11. With that being said, Id like to know what size tires everyone recomends to run with them? I was thinking a 315 or maybe bigger in the rear, and not really too sure about the fronts. Please just let me know what sizes to run. TIA.

Hey Nate,

I just installed C6 Z06 reproduction wheels on my 2004 C5 Coupe and I used Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires in the following sizes:

Front: 275/35/18

Rear: 305/30/19

Here is a link to my post with pictures: New Tires and Wheels Post

Good luck with your decision

My first car was a 99 SS. I had chrome ZR1's on it, 17x11 in the rear mounted on some 315/35/17 Nittos, and oooh boy did I LOVE the look of the BIG meats in the back! Thats why I was wondering if theres a 315 size tire for 19's or possibly a little bigger, Id love to have some big meats out back. Any more opinnions guys? Once again thanks.

Vette-pilot your car looks amazing! I cant wait to get some rims on my Yellow coupe.

I guess Im basically just wanting to know what all sizes are options that I can run on the car front and rear.

Also, am I going to have problems with the rear depending on what size I go with and that I have brake ducts?

Same wheel set-up as you. I have 245/40zr18 and 305/30zr19s. The 275/35zr18 will work just fine.

Is the 245 a lower profile than the 275? Sorry Im not really that knowledgable when it comes to all the tire sizes and everything. Does any tire company make a 315 that will fit on a 19x11?

Heres a previous post of mine:
"If you go to the various tire manufactures websites, they post the max and min wheel width each of their tires will fit.

see here:
http://www.michelinman.com/assets/pd...otsportps2.pdf

Hope this helps!"

I did a little research for you using tirerack.com and using a spreadsheet I made in excel and michelin's website. Most tire manufactures have similar wheel width recommedations. Here is what I found (all measurements are in inches):

Original 245/45/17 Goodyear Eagle F1 EMT:
Overall Tire Height=25.68 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=7.5-9.0

Original 275/40/18 Goodyear Eagle F1 EMT:
Overall Tire Height=26.66 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=9.0-11.0

Remember, to keep your speedo, active handling and everything else in order, you will want to stay as close to the original tire height as possible and remember that the rear should definitely be taller than the front.

Assuming you want a 18 x 9.5 up front here is what I would look for:
245/40/18
Overall Tire Height=25.71 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=8.0-9.5
255/40/18
Overall Tire Height=26.03 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=8.5-10.0
265/35/18
Overall Tire Height=25.30 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=9.0-10.5
275/35/18
Overall Tire Height=25.57 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=9.0-11.0

I would probably stick with the 245/40/18 as the originals are 245s so there wouldn't be any rubbing...the 275 has a good overall height but it might rub...I'm not sure!

Assuming you want a 19 x 11 out back:
275/35/19
Overall Tire Height=26.57 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=9.0-11.0
285/35/19
Overall Tire Height=26.85 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=9.5-11.0
295/35/19
Overall Tire Height=27.12 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=10.0-11.5
305/30/19
Overall Tire Height=26.20 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=10.5-11.5
315/30/19
Overall Tire Height=26.44 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=N/A
325/30/19
Overall Tire Height=26.67 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=12.0-13.0
335/30/19
Overall Tire Height=26.91 Recommeded Wheel Width Range=N/A

I would stick with the 275/35/19 as once again the originals were 275 so you wouldnt have to worry about rubbing. The 285 is nice if you want slightly wider. Also, the 275 size tire will give you the greatest selection of tires to choose. I couldnt find a tire made by anyone in the 315/30/19 size or the 335/30/19 size. And since the 325/30/19 fits 12-13" wheels, it wont work with a 11" wheel.

Hope this helps you out!! If you want my excel spread sheet let me know and I'll email it to you so you can play with it yourself...

Rian

To answer your 245 vs. 275 low profile question:
A tire has 3 different numbers (245/45/17)
245 is the section width in millimeters (Meaning the width of the tire)
45 is the aspect profile or the height of the sidewall and is a percent number. To determine the height of the side wall, convert the 45 into a percent which equals 0.45. Then multiply the 0.45 times the width of the tire. In this case 0.45 x 245=110mm which means that the actual height of the side wall is 110mm (110mm between the edge of the wheel and the ground). To determine the overall height of the tire, remember that since there are two halfs of the tire (sidewall below the wheel and a sidewall above the wheel) you have to multiply the 110mm by 2 which equals 220mm then convert it into inches (220/25.4=8.66") the add the 8.66" to the wheel diameter which is 17 (17+8.66=25.66")

So to answer you question it really depends on the first two numbers how "low" profile your tire is..not just the first or second number...

Hi Nate,

Yes there are 315mm tires available for the 11.0 inch wide rear wheel combos. This is an excellent o.e. upgrade, and, proper tire width to wheel width application. Nate, you will find that Continental makes the ContiSport Contact II in size 315/25-19. Moreover, so does Michelin in the Pilot Sport PS2's. And, as we speak, Pirelli is soon to release a 315/25-19 in the Pirelli PZero Rosso Assimetrico's. Now, will the 11 inch wide wheels rub on the Z06 rear brake ducts? This is dependent upon the rear wheel offset. However, in most o.e. offset Plus 1 applications with an 11.0 inch wide rear wheel width, there is no rubbing. However, 11.5 inch wide wheels and wider WILL rub. Despite this issue, if you are motivated and creative enough, one only needs to modify the ducting, and/or, wheel well to suit. Good luck to you.

The reason I didnt mention the 315/25/19 is the overall height of a 315/25/19 tire is 25.20...which is not only smaller than the front stock but a 25 series tire is much more prone to bent wheels due to potholes...the side wall is only 3" tall...
