Default Bad Resonance

I put on Borla Stingers a couple of months ago with the rest of the exhaust stock on my 2000 and loved the sound. Last weekend I added a Bassani off-road x-pipe. The car got considerably louder and that I don't mind but the resonance at 70mph on the interstate is unbearable. It is very hard to talk. There was a definate performance increase when I added the x-pipe and I don't want to give that up. I'm thinking of going ahead and spending the money on LG Longtubes. Are any of you running LG's with Borla Stingers. If so how is the noise at Highway Speed. I don't mind loud I just can't take the resonance.

I seriously doubt if you add long tube headers that you'll decrease the resonance.

Speaking of which, I forgot to ask you when I was there yesterday, what's the status on your LT's?

mwbmd11: Depends what you mean by resonance as many have different descriptions.

Personally, the only resonance I ever hear is when I first crank up the car when it is cold and only at idle. Soon as I put it in gear there is no resonance.

Now, if it's drone you are talking about, well I get some in 4th at around 45-50. Easy fix - I just put it in 3rd.

At highway speeds (65-70) it is a bit louder than just the Borlas but not unbearable and certainly not so loud as to not be able to hear my passenger talk to me.

Though I have to admit there are three things I have done to limit the noise in the cabin -- 1) Insulation mod, 2) 3" foam partition, 3) stuffed fiberglass insulation up in the rear wheel wells per Evil-Twin's Tire noise reduction write-up.

Your best bet is to get with someone in your local club that has the setup you want and get them to take you for a ride.

Good luck in your quest for mucho noise outside with minimal noise inside the cockpit.

I had Car Chemistry inserts before the long tube headers were added but left them out after the installation to see if the headers made much difference. After 15 minutes of driving, my ears were ringing so the inserts went back in; the headers made the resonance worse. Two kinds of sound foam and a lot of work made little difference in reducing the resonance but the inserts worked so you might want to try a set of them first.

1. The long tubes WILL NOT assist in remidy.

2. One remedy is to purchase a trunk partition - but not the Eclkers type as it is thin and usless (IMO). Caontact Andy at 21st Century MC (972 417 7177) and get one of his - it will assist in remedy of your issue.

Here's mine installed

Not the same set up as yours but

Lg's with GHL bullets (6" cans) no cats and it is loud but only resonance is right at 70 mph so I doubt you are going to cure your problem with the stingers!

All I do is put her in 5th or wind it up to 75 and all is well.

Get a partition. You will love those stingers even more. I've got the dynatech supermax system on with the borla outback and i love it. Might not love it if i didnt have the partition though. Get a partition and save yourself some hassle.

Well said and advised above: Adding Long Tubes will only increase the perceived interior resonance and exhaust note. Therefore, look into some good sound deadening material (Ecklers, Home Depot, Andy's, etc.) for lining the entire cargo, waterfall area, and, inner fenderwells with. And, if you can, double layer the insulation beneath all those carpeted areas. Unfortunately, an increase in decibels is the cost one experiences for increases in performance from installing high performance exhaust and top engine upgrades. Best wishes to you.

Corsa's = no resonance or drone. Like the sound so far but They sound a little like the '60 Vette i had and also like the boat i had with straight pipes. But then i liked the sound of both of them Not "exactly" the sound i would like but got a great deal on Ebay, love the Pro Tip looks....and no resonance or drone if that's what you want.
