Default Difference Between

Hi, Im still learning about these beautiful cars.

This will be a rookie question, but what is the difference between a Fixed Roof Coupe and a plain 1997 or 98. I can't figure it out? I'm guessing the body is a little different. I'm that 18 year old kid that wants to buy a Corvette and stated I would like a FRC, mainly because it was 1999. I guess there is more to it than the year.

By the way, Still havent decided to get a 'Vette or stick with the Camaro

The FRC has a fixed roof...the coupe has the removable targa top. Get the regular coupe. The targa is an exellent feature.

The FRC ran from 1999-2000. In 2001 it became better known as the Z06.

The FRC is the same body style as what became the Z06. It has a fixed roof (as the name implies) and a trunk like the convertible. It looks like a convertible would if it had a hard fixed top. Whereas the coupe has a removeable Targa panel over the driver's compartment and a lift in back kind of like a hatchback. The sloping rear window lifts to expose the cargo compartment in the coupe. Does that explain it?

Here's an article on the introduction of the Fixed Roof Coupe and it explains the differences in standard equipment. Also it explains that the FRC became the "highest performance" model of the C5.

For what it's worth----Stay w/ the Camero. Go to college, trade school, the Military, etc., then think about getting a Corvette. You have many, many years ahead of you. Get the Vette once you've got both feet firmly planted on the ground. Good luck....

...but get those feet planted as fast as possible and then get behind the wheel of a vette...

(the last thing we need is some 16 year old driving a vette [see profile])

Get an FRC -- you don't want to be driving around in your trunk all day.

Another youngling!

Well, welcome to the forum. It appears that you have good taste. Our best advice is to purchase only that which you can really afford. Now, that being said, there are used C5's out there between '97 and '00 that may work out for you. Be sure to research the C5's mechanical, technical, servicing, insurance, and, upkeep issues of this fine vehicle. And, if you do locate one that interests you (be sensible and selective), do be sure to have the vehicle inspected by a competent mechanic before you make the plunge and purchase the vehicle. Good luck to you.

One other thing that has not been mentioned, the FRC only comes with a black interior, and a stick shift. So if youre looking for auto or color choice in interior, the FRC is out. I love my FRC...!!! But good luck in whatever you decide....
