Hurst Shifter Install Tips
I just installed a Hurst shifter in my 01 Vert and want to thank Patches for his excellent pictorial/tutorial on this. Also, would like to add some tips to his instructions:
1. Removing the demon key. Get two paint can openers from Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Place one under each side of the key in a X pattern and then open the X. This lifted the key right out with no surprises.
2. Removing/installing the plastic bushing on the bottom of the shifter. Put the bushing into a glass of hot water for about 1-2 minutes. Then, wrap a towel around the bushing and pull gently. It slipped off with no fuss. When putting the bushing on the new shifter, place the bushing into the hot water for 1-2 minutes and then press it onto the ****.
That's it - the only thing that gave me a problem was reattaching that )E(*&W#(& little gas cap release plug. Finally got it back in by kinda balancing on my head on the seat, holding up the console with my left hand, bracing a light with my jaw, and easing that plug back in...
