I've had my 04 Commerative Edition for about 18 months and have not really stomped on it from a stopped position. I keep thinking I will tear it up. I see all the abilities of the car but have not taken the car to task.
I have had it to 140 on I65 near Memphis but it doesnt even breathe hard.
I keep it showroom condition and want to keep it like that.
Any Advice????
If I had two of em, I would be running the dog crap out of one of them.
Get on it!! It's built for that. If you kepp it up maint wise and detail it nothing should go wrong. It's a sports car man, a vette at that!! It will not hurt your car, I've had mine for 3 years and it's still showroom!!

part of the thrill of owning a vette is getting on it now & then; but doing a buck forty on public roads is a recipe for disaster. maybe take it out on a closed track & give it a good workout. might be safer for all concerned. bub

I can understand. I went through the "I just bought a 50K car... I don't want to "break" it" phase for about a day.
But, don't worry about it all... stomp on it and let her go. It's designed and built to light the tires over and over again.
Have fun and stop by to say hello next time you drive through Memphis.
Man around where I live there isn't hardly anyone on the US highways you can stomp on it all you want you pretty much have the roads to yourself. So yea in those populated areas your talking about, thats asking for trouble.
I can't argue with you on that. You are both right.
I would not do it again and would not recommend it. I hope others will heed your advice.
It was a Sunday morning, clear, dry, no cars, long straight stretch and it was one of those times where I thought if I was ever going to let her go, that was the time. I will certainly keep that memory with me for a long time.
We all make mistakes sometime.
It is amazing how fast it got up to speed though !!!!!!

Good for you to have the sense to do it when there wasn't a bunch of traffic around, you gotta luv the G- force pushing your head back in that seat though, what a feeling!!!

Glad to hear this isn't something you do regularly I have got to find a track for me to do the same with mine. The temptation is great and the discipline difficult, even on a clear roadway (which doesn't happen too much in Southern Cal).
guys i'm jealous as well. there was a thread here recently that a nascar track in atlanta allowed folks to take a few pretty hot laps for a $25 donation to breast cancer. here in pa, the local corvette club does a day each spring at the pocono nascar track; i understand that you can air the car out just fine up there---pretty large track. i'm very, very tempted. enjoy the ride. bub
Sounds like everyone is providing some great advice and no you won't break it...okay add another 100-150 hp and maybe you will break something!
I love to cruise as you do and sure I have hit my fair share of high speeds, but I do recall the cross-country trip I just got done with, the highway was clear and long and recently repaved and my father was with me and wanted to see what we could do and I shot up to a 150 then the highway showed signs of other drivers...I swear to you the car never coughed at this and as soon as I was back done to the speed limit (75mph in Idaho) I was hit with a lazer gun. I got really lucky and don't plan on doing that any time soon.
Before you guys turn on me, I just shipped the car from Hawaii and was never able to drive excessively here, so I took my one opportunity and ENJOYED THE HECK OUT OF IT!!!!!!!!!!
Can we wring it out? I do like to drive fast, but not over 80 on the interstate (and even then the morons in the the rice burners are weaving in and out and passing me).
