Default K&N Difference

How popular is it to put a K&N or simlar Filter onto a C5
What performance difference's if any will it make?
And Lastly does it sound better??

Dyno was done at 21st Cent, 5 rwhp gain. Pretty good for $60, but here is the story...

At the time I had exhaust mods and a Z06 air box = 375 rwhp, added a K&N = 370 rwhp, dyno tune to adjust air/fuel = 380 rwhp

K&N and other oiled aftermarket filters do prodouce a "groan" like nosie when hitting the throtle that sounds good.

It can't be the only change if you want hp. I LOST 3hp adding the K&N to a modded air box with only a cat-back change. Other changes and/or tuning are needed. It is not a hp gainer by itself.

More air through = more dirt through....
But does K&N let more air through???
If I remember the data correctly, there was a post about a year ago with independent engineering data that showed when new paper outflowed K&N, but when dirty, K&N outflowed paper....
The jury is out, but in the interim, I used Both K&N and Fram Air Hog filters....

I find it hard to believe that you can loose HP by adding a K&N. I'm sure its possiblbe, but I just find it hard to believe.

I have used both, one in my stock air lid and one in my vararam. I wanted better filter and to be able to clean it, and keep it clean. As far as performance or sound???? Not by my SOTP but then again it is not calibrated IMO it is more for piece of mind.

In my expirience with K&N i have not only seen improved performance but my exhaust has more rumble. This is just my expirience though. I have heard others with different outcomes. I dont know how it would make things worse but I guess anything is possible. I would check with your local performance shop for more info.

Thats is pure crap. K&N flows 4 times more air than a Delco paper.
Why are they on every Indy car and the K&N design (screen oil cloth)
Now made by several companies. Is part of every aftermarket intake
pure bs.

You had another varible screwing with you.
Like the catback change the K&N caused nothing as far as hp.loss.
Try a dyno tune to get your hp. K&N with the catback =too lean =power loss. some cars don't adjust as well.

I will look to see if I can find a copy of the report. I tried the Forum search engine... It did not find it.
I also have a colleague who used to manage a plant that made paper air filters. He has always said that K&N air flow is no better than paper...
Who and what is one to believe?

I have put a K&N in three cars, 87 Buick Grand National, 97 Z-28 Camaro, and my 03 MN6 Vette. I did nothing to the air boxes on the 3 cars. I put in a K&N filter that replaced the orginal paper filter. On all 3 cars, my mpg increased usually 1.5 to almost 3, the time/speed was better on the strip for the Buick and the Camaro, I have not taken the vette to the strip, and yes there is a little more sound at WOT, but I like that. Go to the K&N web site and you can read the write ups.
