For all you Vette pilots that like to 'light 'em up' every now and then, I pose a question.
When YOU do YOUR burnouts, is your traction control engaged or dis-engaged?
In the old days we used to put 'er in gear, rev the engine and dump the clutch (automatics weren't cool yet) while stomping the gas. This usually created the proverbial 'burnout' a.k.a. 'laying rubber'.
With all of the high tech stuff on cars such as traction control and stabil-a-trac, one wonders how you can even brake the tires loose if the tech stuff is engaged.
When my rear tires near replacement, I plan to finish them off by burning them off doing donut loops....but not before.

The point of traction control is to stop the tires from breaking traction... which is the whole point of a burnout. You will need to turn it on before you try or your car will just stumble and fall on its face.
does every c5 have competition mode? i held my tcs button down for while and nothing popped up for me, thenever iwant to launch or burnout i take the tcs off.
The car has traction control (prevents wheels from losing traction) and stability control (applies any brake to keep the car from losing its yaw; keeps it straight). You can turn one or the other off, but not both at the same time. Turn off traction control: Hold the button down for 5 seconds. Turn off stability control: Briefly hold down the button.
Personally, I would NEVER turn off the stability control.

Depends on the year. I think Comp Mode was an option on 99's and standard on 2000 up. Not to sure though.
Competition mode: Keep the big button on ur console pressed down, and hold it there for 5 - 15 seconds. In older C5s it takes 10 seconds or so for the Comp mode to kick in. New C5s (2001+) takes about 5 seconds.
fwiw, there is no shortage of posts/threads here of folks who turned off the traction control & the car got away from them big-time. do so w/ care. bub

On my 02. Push button very quickly and it turns off Traction Control and Active Handling. Hold button for 5 seconds and Competition Mode is engaged with Traction Control off, Active Handling on. Push button quickly again and its TC on AH on.
As a side note, to clear Competition Mode from the DIC hit reset. It stays engaged but is cleared from the display.

I believe comp. mode only works on cars with active handling. I know for a fact my 97 does not have it at least....
