Default C6 vs C5

Folks I am happy that I kept my 04 C5 instead of trading it in for a new C6. It took me a long time to determine why I was so hesitant. At first, I did not like the looks of the C6 as much as the C5 and still do not. But here is the answer. It is too refined. What I mean by that is It rides smoother, it is quieter, you can hardly hear the exhaust note, and it is packed with electronic gagetry. When I drive a C6 I forget I am driving a sportscar. The only thing it has to remind me that its a Vette is when I hit the gas. if you want a Cadilac that looks like a Vette the C6 is for you. As for me, watching my C5 idle in the driveway with the rumble from the B&B exhaust and the look of a sleek muscle car is a sight for sore eyes and music to my ears. Anyone have similar thoughts?

To get the C6 back to a sports car - do what I am doing.

Sending both to LPE for TT (includes headers and exhaust).

The TT do affect the 'noise level o fthe exhaust', but this is offset by the RWHP you'll get

And, when you come up to a C6 Z06 - all they will see are your tail lights

And, I am keeping both my C5's - love 'em

I like the idea of a new Corvette but not the new Corvette payment.

Mee tooo....

But I do semi agree. After test driving the C6, I really liked the rough ride of my lowered, hardened C5. (not that I would not do the same to a C6)

My first reaction when I drove a C6 was similar to yours, but man, would that thing go compared to my stock C5. A good long burnout tends to make those feelings go away.

For me, it all comes down to looks. Very simply, I like the look of the C5 better. Although, if I can get my hands on a new Z06 next year, believe me, there will be one parked next to my C5 Z in the garage.

I love the idea of owning a 2006 Z06, but I hate the style of the rear end of the new 06 vettes, Z06 included.

I love everything about the new C6, it's looks and performance are great....but neither are a compelling enough reason "right now" to get one when I have my C5 in the garage.

....the C6 Z06, now thats a different story! If only I could find that $70K I had lying around.

I remember people saying much the same thing in 1963. They were complaining about the refinement of the 1963 Corvette compared to the 1962 model. Then I also heard the same thing when the C5 was introduced. Heard more than once, "nothing but a boulevardier; the C4 is the last of the "REAL" Corvettes."

The world moves on and your thoughts have been often felt by others. In the end, we will probably all get used to the changes, but I understand. Frankly, I would love the new pushbutton transmission, but much more so, I love my C5. Why? because, its mine.

I'm starting to think the same thing. I'm leaning towards a gen II Viper GTS... Don't want a car payment but that car is calling me.

Ain't that the truth. Would like to have a C6, but when I figure what the difference in cost will be, my C5 is just perfect for me.

Small wonder you came away from your test drive with the impression you did.

You didn't drive an MN6 Z51 equipped C6. You drove an F55 equipped model and probably had the suspension set on "floaty."

And yes, it probably did feel like you were driving a Lincoln Continental Town Car.

Try a C6 with the MN6 Z51 option. The car behaves and rides very similar to the C5 Z06 according to people who have owned both and do own both. A real sports car type feel.

The improved gearing of the MN6 Z51 equipped C6, indeed First Second Third and Fourth are the same as the C5, would have made a big difference in your experience.

I think you are presently driving an A4. If you drove an F55 A4 C6 you very likely noticed very little difference between it and your car. Especially if it had 2.73 gears in it. An F55 equipped car can't compare to an MN6 Z51 equipped C6 in terms of handling, acceleration, and anything else performance lovers look for in a sports car. F55s are for people who really wanted Cadillacs.

The Z51 MN6 C6 is a totally different animal.

Enjoy your C5. Its a great car. But not every C6 is as "civilized" as that F55 equipped A4 you drove. If you are basing all C6s on that F55 equipped model you drove, you ain't seen nothing yet.

After several months of talking about it with forum members and driving several of them I have decided it is not for me. If you have one best of luck with it.
