I'm at about 3,700 miles on my oil change. The DIC shows 40% oil life remaining. I have added 1 quart already and I'm now 1 quart low again. What can I say, I guess my Vette likes to drink Mobil 1.

BTW - Mine is a 2000, manual transmission.

A lot of this is directly related to driving style and choice of oil. Change either and oil consumption will change. And I have a MN6.

Why don't the earlier years have this problem? Didn't they just keep using the same rings from '97?

The '01s were known for the oil consumption issue, but some '00s had it too as evidenced by my car. Had my rings replaced under warranty when the car had about 11K miles on it. Not a problem since. I agree that GM did not come out with a fix for the rings until early in the production cycle for the '02 model. I was waiting to get mine fixed until it came out and I believe it was somewhere around October of 2001 that GM released the undated rings. My car was repaired in November 2001.

Thanks, I got to wondering why the earlier years 97-99 didn't seem to have a problem or at least I hadn't heard about it.
Maybe just some bad rings they started using in '00 and '01?
