Run, don't walk, away from this one.

Something is completely wrong with either the price - or the Vette itself.

Something is very wrong no one in their right mind would sell a 99 vette for $9,000 dollars.

In WWII they used the term "The Boogieman will get ya." This has to be the Boogieman.

Here is one of the responses i got from a "deal"

"Hi,

I am glad to hear that you are interested about my car.The car is in perfect conditions

without any scratches or other mechanical problems. The price for the car with shipping

included,is $15500.The car has a Clear Title which you will receive it with the car.It can

be registered into your name. Also the car will arrive with all the documentations required

for registration.I will ship the car and I will pay the shipping costs.I live in Germany so the car will be shipped from here.I bought this car from US but when i tried to register

the car in here they said that i can't register a car that has US emissions.I sell it so

cheap because i can't find a buyer in my country.I want to sell it in US because the car is

still registered there.I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100%

legitimate, the financial part of this deal will be manage by a third party,in this way both

of us will be protected.
So if you really want it please give me an email as soon as possible.

Thank you!"

It was a 2002 Vette with under 20k miles. The ad showed it was located in Houston, I figured if he wanted to meet and actually had the car it was worth a shot but.........

This is a scam. There are tons of these on AutoTrader. I ran across a bunch of them when I was shopping for my car. A lot of these guys even get elaborate and set up phony escrow "services" so you are lulled into a false sense of security.

I have been trying to sell a car on AutoTrader recently, and there are lots of buyer scams, too. I've gotten lots of emails from people who are claiming to be foreign buyers. They'll offer my asking price with no negotiation and offer to pay for shipping. The scam is that the check that they want to send is for some amount much greater than the asking price (to cover shipping), and is issued by a foreign bank. Someone will come to pick up the car, and they want you to write a check for the difference. Of course, the check is forged, stolen, etc., so some U.S. agency swoops in and seizes the funds, and you have, in essence, paid someone thousands of dollars to steal your car.

I hope horrible accidents befall all scammers.

CHECH OUT THIS EMAIL I GOT. The car 1999 Chevrolet Corvette is located in Marion, KS with only 25638 miles on board, in excellent running and body condition, no flaws on it or any other mechanical problems. It has a clear title and it will be signed and notorized on your name as soon as the payment will be completed. I am in process to moving here and i need to sell fast my car because I have to pay down payment for a new investment, this is the reason that i can sell it so cheap.
The price is only $9,000 (I need a serious buyer for my car, no more) including shipping costs anywhere in the continental US. There are no other costs regarding this transaction.
Regarding the payment I am aware of the buyer's protection and we will use Autotrader's protection program which will hold the payment until you receive the car. You'll need to make a deposit $4,500 of the total amount $9,000, and the remaining balance of $4,500 after you accepted the car. To complete payment the buyer must have cash available. By making a deposit you are not buying the car, is just the way the program works (and in case you buy the car it will give you a 1 month/1000 miles guarantee). However, it is 100% refundable if the car is not as described.
If you are interested in this car please provide me the follwing informations necessary to take a decission:
-your full name and address for shipping
-your phone #
If I receive the requested informations you will be informed by Autotrader during the next hours with details about your purchase.
Thank you,
April

Not nececerly a scam..

i have a story for you, and its 100% real!

5 year ago, a friend of mine, was looking to buy a used car..
he looked in the newspaper ads, and he found a strange looking one, he didnt have too much to do, so he decided to check it out..
the ad said, its a 1999 BMW 540 (back then it was one year old), and the price was a real bargain, he called, and an old lady answered and invited him to take a look at the car..

the price she asked for was only 10% of the real value of the car - my friend went over there, in the purpose of finding the catch..

he checked the car, title and everything looked legit,
the car was in excellent condition, even low milage.

after giving up, he asked the lady, "whats the story?, why are you selling the car so cheap?"

Belive it or not, she answered:
the car belonged to her deceased husband, he just passed away a month before.
in the will he left, she found out for the first time that he was living a double life, and he had a lover..
in his will, he mentioned that the BMW should be sold, and the money should go to the mistress..
well the lady was so angry, she tried anything, with her laywers, but nothing could be done, the mistress was entitled for the money made from the BMW, so she decided, she will do the only thing legally possible she sold it cheap!

So, my friend made the deal of his life!

Sorry for the long story.. but i just want to show you the miracles do happen!

Scam

I replied to the add as well got the same email back from April. Autotrader sent me an e-mail stating they do not warehouse cars, they do not act as a third party, etc, etc. I even went further to ask for a phone number to reach April and got another bad phone number.

For fun I replied to her email. She said the vette is in Marion Kansas so I asked her if I could go and look at it since I'm only 5hrs away. I haven't heard back yet.

As the old saying goes; "If it sounds too good to be true, then it just might well be." (Or, something like that.)
