pros of an x-pipe are increased hp, and less exhuast gargle on decelleration. cons...cost you a few hundred bucks. if you're jus worried about sound id sasy jus get the cat back. but if you're goin for performance, especially if you're plannin on gettin longtubes one day, id def say get the x-pipe. good luck man!
I would spring for the X pipe. I had the Borla Stinger Quad Tips put on mine with no X pipe. I had quite a bit of poping when shifting gears and on deceleration. It was annoying. I had a Corsa X pipe put on because the place I take my car for service had the Corsa X pipe in stock. That eliminated the poping and smoothed out the sound. It's got a nice sound now when cruising at 70 to 80. It puts my wife to sleep. It's nice and mellow.
I love the poping of the H pipe! I love my bullets when revmatching down to 2nd gear ... you would think someone is shooting a 9 mili out of my car pop! pop! pop!

If you experience some resonance or popping when letting off the gas, an X-pipe can help. Sure made a difference in mine after I installed an aftermarket exhaust.
I added the x-pipe, hi flo cats, and long tube headers after the borla exhaust and the resonance definately got a little lower and the car sounds 10x meaner....
I have the Corsa Indys with no X-pipe. I have to WORK to get it to pop on decel. Not a big deal believe me. If I thought there was a performance advantage I would put it on, but other than that, no.
By the way, my exhaust puts me to sleep at 80mph....even when I'm driving
