An x-pipe is not required. You might want one if you don't like the pop/gurgle on decel that you will probably experience after your exhaust is installed. Personally I liked that sound. I got my x-pipe to eliminate the motorboat sound at idle and the metallic "jingle" sound I experienced after installing my GHL Bullets. I'd suggest not getting the x-pipe right away and see how you like the sound of your exhaust. Then add the x-pipe if you want the exhaust tones mellowed a little.
Gotta get the X-pipe. I have the Corsa pace car exhaust with the x-pipe and it sounds great. Nice and tame when you want it and sounds great when you get on it.

I installed my Corsa Indys and loved the sound. Later I installed the x-pipe and was very disappointed in the loss of the aggressive sound. It was to quite for me so I took off the x-pipe and sold it.
Oh, BTW if you install the x-pipe it will require cutting the stock pipe just after the Cats. Some owners do not want to do that. The exhaust system alone requires no cutting and is a direct bolt on.
