Default LS7 engine in a C5 Z06

The recent thread on the C6 Z06 Clutches got me thinking.

Will it be possible to buy a LS7 crate motor in a couple of years and drop it into my 02 Z06?

If a number of components are interchangeable, what would be needed besides the engine? New computers? larger fuel line and pump? Engine subframe?

Anyone know what is the difference in weight of the engines? Will the C6 front spring fit into the C5?

Should work fine with a harness and computer. There will be a few wrecked one you can salvage these parts from.

You might need to just look over the dimensions and motor mounts. Springs should not be a problem, the motor is not that much heavier.

I heard the dry sump oiling will cause you some issues. Might have to re-ocate your battery to the rear of the car,

Do your homework before pulling the trigger on this....

Love to hear how it goes.

I'd think the LS7 motor is actually lighter. Bigger cylinders, same size block, so less metal in the engine.
I dunno what the weights are though.

I wonder if it's feasible to use a wet sump on this motor?

We have an LS7 (second crate released) coming in as we speak to do this very thing.. Working out the technical details now. Should be an interesting project. I'll post once we start getting into it with our experiences.

You also have to fix the oil issue since LS7 is dry sump and LS6 is wet sump.

Gene, this is actually Tom.. Mark has been the one in contact with you all along and coordinating all of the parts gathering. I'm just the guy who will be getting his hands dirty I'll definitely be putting everything up on our website as we go.. I'm also working on a C5 to C6-R conversion at the moment which has been keeping me busy, and I'll be posting loads of pics on that one too.

I appreciate all your work and making the deal incredibly easy for us. We've got alot of work ahead of us, but it's definitely worth it given the circumstances of this particular project car and it's owner.

I'm sure we'll be ordering plenty of needed parts from you in the near future (hint big brakes )
