Before you go out and buy just any locking gas cap, keep in mind that the correct gas cap that forms the right seal is required and a must for the C5. Otherwise, your car's evaporative emissions (EVAP) system will not work correctly. When this happens, you'll start getting Check Engine Lights and Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). I don't know if GM makes a locking gas cap that is correct for the C5 or not, but I would highly recommend that you check with a knowledgeable C5 tech or parts person at your dealership before buying.

The only problem I've seen with the aftermarket lockers (or non-lockers for that matter) is that none of them seem to have the ability to re-attach the tether cord. There's no groove around the outside of the cap to do so. I prefer to have the tether cord so's I won't drive off and forget it. Hey, I'm getting old. Don't laugh!
No one would steal gas out of a Corvette, they would just take the whole car, so you must be worried about someone putting something IN the gas tank, right?
