Well, I drove my car last night. Outside temp is about 50 deg. But I drove about 10 miles so the engine bay warmed up pretty good. Drove the same distance on the way home. Check the hood, tried to lift the plate, did not lift so I assume it held up pretty well.
Is there a way to get the stuff to lay PERFECTLY flat as to avoid the fun house mirror reflection?
I think if you do what VLVETTE did,
putting it inside the recessed part instead of on top of it, you might avoid it. But the hood is not a perfect flat surface, so there still be some funhouse mirror effect that's going to happen.
I know I'm a little late...but just did the project myself...very pleased how it turned out...it took me forever to find the mirrored acrylic...but it is all said and done...looks great
Thanks to all for the great DIY ideas ... keep em commin'

Willfulone,
You mentioned that you did not find it at Walmart. Try Pepboys/Autozone/Advance autoparts. Carquest. I've seen them on these autoparts store I've mentioned. Good luck.
