Default oil change question

I haven't started my car in a week and I want to change the oil. Should I just remove the plug and drain the oil or start the engine to get it warm? Or does it matter?

You should bring it to operating temp. To burn off the condensation in the internal parts. My $.02

Get her nice and warm and then drop the oil. Be sure not to burn yourself on the exhaust and try not to get the oil on your hands, it's hot!

I'd warm it up a bit first.

I try to change mine the day after a drive. This way its been run recently,
the oils drained down into the pan and no dirty words from touching hot
engine parts!

The reason for draining the oil while hot is so as not to leave any sludge in the bottom of the oil pan. Take a look at some old oil pans and you will see the result of drainig cold.

does the DIC automatically reset the oil life after it is changed? Or is there something else you need to do besides just changing the oil and filter??

You have to reset it yourself. Read the instruction manual for this. Love it when it reads 100%!!

You have to reset it. Turn the ignition on (engine off), put the DIC on Oil Life and press and hold the RESET button. Should change to 100%.

Warm it first to get rid of all the impurities in the pan and it will also drain faster. To reset interval, turn key to ON, do not start, floor gas pedal four times, turn key OFF and then back ON. Interval will be reset.

I agree with the others...warm it up first. One of the things that didn't get mentioned as a benefit for doing this is that when warm the oil will not only drain out of the pan easier and faster, it also drains down out of the engine faster this way and you are more likely to get most of the old oil out of the car this way.

And...striper is correct about the quick way to reset the oil life meter with only one exception. You only need to depress the pedal three times not four. Turn the ignition on, but do not start the car, and then fully depress the throttle rapidly three times. Works like a charm.

The advantage of living in the southwest=change oil when motor is cold=oil is warm!
