I got on the track for the first time at the Memphis Motorsports Park via a SCCA Performance Driving Event. What a Blast!!! Its a 1.8 mile road track with the drag strip as the longest strait at about 3/4 of a mile. Two days worth of pure fun. I'm hooked for sure. Only problem I had was boiling the brake fluid on the second day. Took about 2 hours to change that out and I lost a little track time but live and learn. I'll change the brake fluid before going next time. If I could enter the strait at around 80mph I could get close to 145mph before the braking point. Don't no what else to say but WHAT A BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and some new tires might be in order
Thanks to all the guys with the Mid-South SCCA!!!!!!!
I think you would be suprised how well a stock car will do. The only mods I have are exhaust and the zip tie mod on the air filter. For the most part I had more power than I could use and the suspension performed great. I do wish I had some race tires. The track was rough on the street tires.
The things I'd probably change for the track would be to upgrade to SS brakelines and high-temp fluid, better brakepads and stiffer sway bars (I have the FE1 suspension). Simple stuff and not very expensive.
Hooked another one...make sure you check out the AutoX and Roadracing section of the forum There is a ton of good information over there to help you prepare your car for the next one.
To cover problem #1, I use ATE Superblue fluid and bleed it within 24 hours prior to every track day and have never had a problem. Speed bleeders make this a very easy job. Heat is the #1 enemy of your brakes, so the only mods I'd worry about for now are a set DRM brake duct coolers, Spindle ducts and good pads. Remember, NAPA sell replacement rotors for ~$25 each.
Since you've only done 1 track event, don't even bother moding the car anymore, you've got to learn how to handle what you've got 1st and seat time will make you 10x faster than any mod will.

I instructed at that event last year, but just moved to the PNW. The SCCA folks in the MidSouth Region are all good people. Glad to see you had a good time with them.
Memphis can be fun, but is fairly hard on the brakes with that long straight. Be careful in Grant's tomb. No point risking the car there for a DE. Also be extremely careful coming out onto the main straight if there is any moisture out. That drag strip provides about as much grip as oil covered glass in the rain...
I use Wilwood EXP 600 Plus fluid (which doesn't meet OEM specs so beware if your car is under warranty) as it has extremely high wet and dry boiling points (sold by forum vendor Hardbar).
