I just purchased a 99 Coupe and the previous owner had a radar detector attached to the dash. Now that the detector is gone all that's left is the glue from the two sided tape he probably used to hold it on the dash.
Question: How do I get the glue off without damaging the dash.
Secondly, the previous owner also installed the Corvette letters on the rear fascia and I would also like to remove these along with the glue underneath them.
Questions how do I get the glue off the fascia without damaging it.
Any help would be appreciated.
By the way I love my new Vette. My first and man is it great. I've wanted a Corvette since I was 16 and finally got one Saturday. Pics to be posted at a later time.
Congratulations on the new Vette. Welcome to the forum.
I believe that you can use Goo Gone for the dash pad to remove the adhesive, I'm not sure as I've never done it, but I believe it will be safe....someone else with experience can verify for me. On the rear letters, try heating them with a hair-dryer and just prying the letters off. You should be able to use denatured alcohol to remove the balance of the adhesive.
heat it first w/ hair dryer, this gets the adhesive off in one shot, if that doesn't work use the other stuff mentioned, congrats on rem'g the goofy 'corvette' letters, now YOU will be the one that stands out w/ the factory look

Goo Gone on the dash and the dryer will soften the adhesive on the letters to get them loose enough to remove, then the Goo Gone will remove the remaining adhesive. In fact this is what the vendor recommended when I purchased my inserts if I needed to re-position them or remove them. Good Luck and enjoy! Zuti
I just used the hair dryer on the letters in the back and they came off clean. Thanks for the tip.
I'll try the hair dryer on the dash too to see if that takes the adhesive off. If not I'll try the Goo Gone, but before I do has anyone actually tried this on the dash? The last thing I want to do is DAMAGE THE DASH.
You have definitely received the best advice regarding what adhesive remover to use (i.e., "Goo Be Gone"). But, again, I cannot stress to you enough on how a simple hand held hair dryer is your best friend in such matters. My custom detailer uses a stronger variant (an actual heat gun) held up close to the product and area needing treatment (letter and decal removal, body side moulding removal, etc.). And, a common hair dryer works great. Just take your time with this project. And, you should be able to achieve the results you are looking for. Good luck to you.
I use 3M Wax and Adhesive Remover. It is extremely effective and safe for the dash. Bear in mind it will take off any protectant (i.e Armor All) that you had on the dash, but that's an easy fix.
Also, you could try rubbing alcohol. It too is safe and effective albeit a little slower.
I just tried the hair dryer on the dash adhesive and this stuff didn't even soften a bit. I'll try either the goo off or 3M product and see what happens. Why would someone use something so potent on the dash. What $%@$#@% goof.

Maybe the previous "owner" was leasing and didn't give a rats rectum. Good luck.
