Default wheels 1" wider

Is there a down side to having 17x9.5 front 18x10.5 back.

Will be ordering ZO6 repos soon, and lowering the car. Also putting widest drag radial on back. Wonder about clearance.

Will this tire work?
nitto 305-35-18 back
nitto 275-40-17

I think the meatier tire may look better,at least on the back. Maybe I should stay with 8.5" wheel on front. Want the best look and performance.

Pics would be nice.

Thank you for yor time.

I like wider tires too...

StuzVette is 18 X 9.5 front and 18 X 10.5 rear...
Nitto 285 35 18 front and Nitto 305 35 18 rear...

Here are some pics so you can see how they fit...
...Im glad I did go with the larger tires and 18's all around...

I run 1 inch wider front and rear wheels but 18's all around. I run Kuhmo MX's 275x35 and 295x35. I think if you go over 295 on the rear your going to run into a tire that protrudes from the wheel well. OK if you like that look, I don't.

it just depends on the offset of the wheels. there is room enough back there for a nicely tucked in 305 tire on a 10.5 or 11" wheel. you just need to have about 8.5-8.75" back space.

the Z06 wheel only has an 8" back space so its going to stick out 1/2" more than a max backspace wheel.

even then, its an aggressive offset. i dont think it actually sticks out. but still, if aggressive isnt your taste, i understand

btw, i have done the 18/18 wheel combo twice with ccw and motorsports. i think it totally throws off the cars proportions. both times i wished the rear could be an inch larger to make the car look more aesthetically pleasing. jmo

Stuarts car "the pictures posted in this thred" are 305. Is this the same deminsion you are talking about? His don't seem to pertrude past fender wells. I may not mind that anyway, just as long as it dosn't rub.

thanks for input

Are you saying you wish you had put 17" wheels on front.

The downside of reproduction wheels is the weight. With the wider wheel and the fact they are repo's you are adding around 20-30 lbs of un sprung weight. Probably 1-2 tenths in the qtr mile slower, worse ride and handling.

There are vendors out there that have already done that for you. They just cost a little more but you will have a much better wheel.

I am speaking from experience here, I already made this mistake.

Here you go GM OEM wheels that have been chromed. Generally the chrome only adds 3 lbs per wheel.

I guess these wheels would cost $2300 W/ no core exchange.

How about 17x8.5 f 18x10.5 back, would you have rather done something like this?

What do you have now, wagon wheels? If so they probably don't take them as a core. I have seen GM chrome Z06 wheels on the for sale section before for around 900.

Edit: used of course.

Heard 19's are tough sizes for tire selection.

that fine too for a street car. you're just going to have more under steer which is safer if you dont want the rear comming around you.

just whatever you like
