Default Radiator inlet screen

Have tried using search on the forum and can't find the post about the "vacuum sweeper" after market screen for the underneath front of the C5s. It was posted a few weeks ago and someone found one from a vendor for about $60. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

You mean something like this: C5 radiator screen

They sell for 90 bux shipped from Elite Engineering; I got mine a few weeks ago but haven't gotten around to installing it

It appears to be very solid and well made

Yes, I do spend money on my C5, but my screen came from Home Depot and cost about $1.00! I had some screen left over from another project. It is a galvanized heavy screen with 1/2" X 1/2" (approx.)mesh. I measured the opening under the car, cut a piece of screen to fit. I secured the front of the screen to the plastic piece where the front air dam is affixed. Then I ran the screen over the cross member under the radiator and bent it up tight. It has been there for months, and no sparrows have found their way into the radiator compartment. Did I say I found a dead sparrow there and decided I needed to screen the area? With the money I saved, I bought GM Z06 screens!

I spend alot on my car, too, but I also used screen from Home Depot (Lowes carries it, too). The screen cost me $8 but it's large enough to make enough screens for at least six cars. Made one for myself, gave three to friends and I've got two leftover. I found a MickeyD's french fry container when I decided to screen mine.

I've had mine from Elite installed now for many months and love it. I don't have all that junk in my radiator fins anymore. It fits perfectly, doesn't rattle and looks much better than $8 chicken wire.

I've also seen these in Mid-America's catalog. Been thinking about one myself.

I spent $3 at Lowe's for a roll of black rain gutter screen. Used it to make foglight vents, radiator screen...

1STDROP123,

How do you know that? I don't think I have even seen you under my car.

Some people probably have the stealer change their C5's oil and filter too! Better fit and finish I guess.

Default radiator screen

Thanks coast7. I went to home depot, got the mesh. Slipped it in between the front fascia and took some time to wrap it almost completely around the 1" square bar that holds the flexible dam-fastened it with some small zip ties. I also bent about 1" of the screen all the way around to form a lip and it looks like it came from the factory. Thanks again.

I agree. Sorry but there's no way I'm hanging $8 worth of bent chicken wire on my $50 thousand dollar car.

I KNOW THAT BASED ON THE WAY YOU DESCRIBED YOUR INSTALLATION AND THE MATERIAL YOU USED .THE WAY YOU " BENT IT UP " TO FIT WHERE THE ELITE PART IS FINISHED OFF AROUND THE EDGES AND HAS ALL THE PRE CUT HOLES ETC NEEDED TO HAVE A BETTER FIT AND MUCH BETTER LOOKING PART ON YOUR CAR . BUT I GUESS I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BENT WIRE MESH .

BTW, it was probably only about a dollars worth...I would never spend that much ($8.00) on my car
