By "Vrod" do you mean the black open one seater? I don't know how fast it went, but you might be able to find out over the ECTA in case it was a record.

By the way, some of these vehicles (I don't know about this one) apparently didn't have an electric starters and therefore needed to be push started - usually by some big pickup truck. This starting took place on the speed track and thus was part of the race.

One biker drove a new record which was announced as "the fastest motorcycle ever." If memory serves me, the announced number was some 280 mph . I guess you need a charger to get enough power for such speeds out of a small motorcycle engine.

We'll start with those...

As I wrote, we only had 1 mile to accelerate. In my first run, I was limited to 125 mph to get used to the track. In following ones, the limit was 150 mph (plus some curtesy margin).

Due to the limited track length, it was technically a drag race and a good start was mandatory. At one run, I was too hard on the gas after changing gear and the traction control set in. This caused me to be without power (like this it felt) for a few seconds. Later I went to competition mode to avoid this problem. In other runs, I started with too much wheel spin (some spectators mentioned black smoke coming from my rear tires at start) and I got some 148-149 mph only. In the last run (the event closed at 2pm) I made sure to accelerate properly from standing (i.e. no or little wheel spin) and I indeed made it above the "magic" 150 mph mark. By the way, the previous record was at 147.783 mph.

The ECTA has a 200 mph club, but with a stock C5 I have no chance to become a member

How long was your track that you came close to 180 mph? I was told that the Corvettes need some 2-3 miles to reach close to top speed.

Corrected! Thanks for pointing out the typo.

The only vehicle that broke down on the track (that I was aware of) was a bike whose engine case broke. This happened early in the morning and it took about one hour to clean the track.

Well, in the Vette's leather seat and wearing a helmet I felt quite comfortable and nothing really scaring happened. The track is pretty wide and (at least at my speeds) it was not difficult to stay in the middle. Starting at around 130 mph, I heard a hissing sound which could be due to turbulence. At first, I though of a defect of my car, but later I just ignored it. It was a bit tricky to break at high speed and I didn't want to be too hard on the brake. In the end, I exited at the very end of the runway.

Driving such a track at 200+ mph speeds on a motor cycle would be a different thing

According to my experience, the speedometer is pretty accurate. I wonder where (in Spain?) did you go 172 mph? Don't aerodynamics suffer when the top is off?

We'll start with those...
1. Laurinburg is in NC close to the border with SC.
2. The stock C5 is considered to have some built-in roll bar/cage-like structure and is allowed to go up to 150 mph.
3. They race every month but make a winter break until April next year.
4. The car does not need to be registered at all.
5. One needs to wear a helmet and some other sportscar driver told me they were required to have a fire extinguisher and wear a fire-proof suit.
6. See no. 3.
7. I paid $125. $100 for the event and the rest to become a member.

Yes, after 1 mile, the car was still accelerating, although not at a spectacular pace.

Wow!! That is awesome!! I'd love to try that out!!!

I've been up to 145 mph on the Pocono Speedway but that's just because the straightaway wasn't long enough. I'd love to legally be able to drive up to 170+ mph at least once. Is it possible to go past the 150 mph limit if you have the proper mods and get approval???

According to the rules, the verts need roll structures. That and the membership and cost to play brings the cost up near a grand. I'm not sure if this is cost effective for me a days drive away.
