For some reason I have the great luck of parking my vette on the flight path of birds taking care of their business....Each time a bird s*#t's on my paint (never on the glass) it eats into the paint leaving a stain on my torch red beauty, immediately (ok, it might be a half hour)....Sure I fix it every day by wet sanding the area and polishing it out.....but I've had a lot of vehicles and never experienced this staining before....I hate the paint quality on my car....

What are you waxing/sealing the paint with? I've got Zaino on mine and the bird-doo usually rinses off, only rarely do I have to rub. Got a nuclear testing facility in the area perhaps??

I've had birds mess on my car before and it comes right off with no etching, etc. I use Armor All paste wax. Maybe you need to look into another wax product.
I know exactly what you mean. The Vette's paint is VERY soft and fragile.
I know this may sound a bit nuts, but try it anyway. The next time you clean off some bird crap wait a few days before you sand out the etched area. You might find that the area has disappeared on its own!
Have you ever rubbed/sanded out an etched section and have it return the next day? I bet you have. It seems that the acid burns off slowly and comes back if you don't wait until it has completely evaporated.
On more than one ocassion I've have some bird crap ecthing totally disappear after a few days. It seems the clear coat refills when the acid is totally gone.
The paint on these cars absolutely sucks the big one. I cannot believe the poor quality of it. It scuffs like no other paint on a vehicle I've had - not to mention the bird crap etchings if there's not a good coat of wax on it. Nature of the beast, unfortunately.
What do you expect? Think about it from a bird's perspective. If you were going to take a dump, would you look for an old, dirty beater or a car that's clean and shiney? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. Someone needs to come up with a disguise to make our pride and joy look like a piece of crap. (No pun intended.)
ummmm, short of carrying a car cover with you at all times to use when you park the car, or perhaps always parking in an enclosed area, this is going to happen regardless of what you drive. there are far bigger fish in life to fry. bummer. bub
