[Z06] Engine temperature
After a pull today through 1st, 2nd, and part of 3rd, I stopped at the next traffic light and waited about 2-3 mins for it. When I started going I thought to check my engine temp and WTF it was 240* but I noticed as I was accelerating more it was coming down.
Nevertheless I pulled over and let it cool way down before starting it back up. I started it back up at about 205* and immediately put the AC on to give the fans a little motivation to do the job it seems like they weren't doing when it got to 240.
I just want to make sure 240 is not normal. To the best of my knowledge, 240 is getting pretty hot, but not anywhere near overheat range so everything should be fine. I am going to take her in to the dealership and see whats up Monday.
Oh and yes the coolant is fine. Hmmm but I wonder if when the dealership filled it up some idiot tech just decided to use all or mostly coolant? I should try to add some water and see if it helps.
But either way, warranty is nice
As an FYI for you, the thermostat on this car comes open about 185-194 or so, so you shouldn't see temps below that unless your car is still warming up. And the fans come on in low at about 220 and high at about 230, so it is fairly common, especially in stop and go traffic in hot weather to see 230 temps.
On the track, it is fairly easy to overwelm the radiator's ability to cool in hot weather and many guys who track add an aftermarket radiator for this reason. I have a DRM aluminum racing radiator in mine with adjusted fan setpoints (lower than stock), but a stock thermostat.

However, if the high setting comes on at 230 then it should not have gone to 240. I got the reading from the DIC.
I had planned on adding another license to my HP Tuners so I think I will try that right away and set my fans a little lower.
Any other people, please let me know the highest temps you have seen...
Temp returns to 190-194 when you get back to sustained cruising speed

even 110 out mine never see's over 225
you need to check your radiator and get a fan switch
- Look at the radiator and clean out any debris that may be limiting airflow. As a note, when I took my stock radiator out to install my racing radiator, I was appalled to see how much debris (little rocks) had wedged themselves in the radiator vanes. When I had it out I shook it and made a little beach on my garage floor.
- Let your car idle and heat up with the hood open and check to see when the fans come on in low and high. If there is something wrong electrically with the fan system and they are not coming on, I could see how your temp could get to 240 in low airflow conditions.
- If you are concerned about the coolant/water ratio, you can get a little tool at most autoparts store to check it, or just drain and refill yourself, it is pretty easy. Drain **** is on the lower rear passenger side corner of the radiator. I believe a square 1/4" drive extension fits right into the drain plug and it turns about a quarter rotation. You might consider adding a bottle of Redline Water Wetter as well.
Good luck sorting it out.

When I hot lap at the drag strip and then stop in line to get my time slip, it is NOT unusual to see 230-240 water temp. That temp drops back down to 190-194 as the fan operate and the load on the engine remains nominal. And I blow out the radiation about once a month, so mine is without debris. And at cruising speed mine runs in the Z06 norm at 190-194.

I don't see coolant temps quite that high after hard use... I will hit 231 or so then the fans come on and temps come down quick...
Like was stated above, check the front of the radiator for blockage...
Also be sure both fans are coming on...
So I changed them to:
low: on @ 216 off @ 209
High: on @ 220 off @ 214
I will drive it tomorrow and see if they actually come on at the values I set. I am pretty sure they will.
Also disabled my cags in the process. More tuning to come once the mod bug kicks in
