Default Suggestions on C5 Mods

So I am finally starting my first mods on my C5, it's a 2001 Black on Black Covertable Manual.

I need suggestions.

The two I definately want to do first is exhaust and cold air intake.

Right now I think most of everyone agrees that Borla is the way to go. (I'm not going to do Headers yet, too much) I want to keep cats so I'm thinking from Cat back.

Which air intake should I go? I've had dealings with K&N before and it's great, but I've also heard that Blackwing is also good, apparently best for the vette.

What do you all think? And what should I do later?

I forgot to say that I don't want it as loud as my Loudmouth that I have on my GTO, I just want a real throaty american muscle sound for the exhaust.

Vararam for the intake and B&B Bullets for the exhaust. The Bullets are nothing quiet though.

Been a Borla fan for a long time, but decided on GHL Bullets for my vette. You really need to listen to some cars before you commit. In person if possible.

I've owned 2 sets of Borlas and have to say the workmanship on the GHLs is superior. All polished stainless...

Welcome! Congrats on the Tripleblack. I have an 01 tribleblack MN6 also. As far as exhausts, you REALLY need to hear them in person. Post a message on the correct regional forum and ask if anyone in your area has set ups you wnat to hear. Last year, I posted a request in the Northeast section asking if someone had Corsa Indy close by. As it turned out, there was a Corvette club meeting about 5 minutes from my work. I stopped in, listened to the Corsas and ended up buying them.

Good luck with the search!!!!!!!

I have an 01' mn6. First mod I got was the b&B bullets and vararam ram air intake i noticed a fairly good improvment over stock speed.
Also after hearing all these complaints on how loud these bullets are i bought em anyways and to my suprize they are very quiet.... i mean louder than stock but nothing crazy and i don't even get resonance/!?!?!

Buddy has a z06 with borlas across the street and his $#!^ is hellllllaaa loud!!!

Well, not really. I'm sure the Borla's are a fine system...in fact that was my first choice when I first got my Vette.

But the more I looked around and talked to other Vette owners with aftermarket exhaust systems, the more I started considering other brands.

I finally decided on the Corsa Pace Car set with Pro-tips. Awesome sound...but check 'em all out before deciding on any particular brand.

Good luck!

Not that it matters - but I agree with Red Racer. I love my Corsa Indy's too. Sounds like you've already made up your mind on the Borla.

FWIW - I like the Blackwing for an intake.

One last point to ponder - if you're looking for a dramatic increase in HP and torque - you won't get that much of an improvement. You might get a little SOTP improvement, but that's about it.

One thing to remeber, if you put on LT headers or remove the cats things get much louder at that time

Honestly, I haven't decided on anything yet besides the blackwing air intake really and that may change.

Over the weekend I got to hear a Corsa system on a GTO and I freakin LOVED it. It's not as loud as my loudmouth on my gto but it is deep and definately all american sounding.

I've got the Blackwing on mine and like it. The Halltech Stinger is another good choice. As far as the exhaust, you'll get tons of opinions on that topic. Borlas are good, but I like my B&B exhaust. Just depends on what your tastes are. Good luck with the mods.

For my 2004 mn6 vert, I got the Corsa's also. It's like ice cream...whatever turns you on.

Have Haltech and corsa indies. GREAT sound at wot. You will need traction so look at some Dr's. MT radial DR's are the best imo.

I have a y2k triple black and the first mods I did were a borla stinger quad tip exhaust and lowered my car with the stock bolts. The borla doesn't give you a headache at highway speed but roars at wot.

I'm starting to lean to the BB Bullet for price and quality, I am really liking the way it looks on TBryne's site
